Assuming the weather holds. Should be temps in the 60s so decent DA of around 5000' give or take.

The car is pretty much ready. Just need to go test out my line lock and practice some burnouts the day before. Have never really done any as I've always been mindful of minimizing wear on the stock clutch for when it really counts. I'm sure I'll be nervous out there. Been a long time since I've made a pass.

I will be borrowing my friend's M&H 275/50/17 (27.5") drag radials. 4.10 gearing. Due to altitude should be around 390-420whp if not heat soaked. My plan is to try a short burnout in first just to clean the tires off and warm them up a little bit. Then try slipping it from about 4500-5K.

Any suggestions on how much pressure to start with in the tires?

Tire pressure will all depend on track prep. When I'm at my lowest power level now which I run 11.2-11.3 at I can be anywhere from 15-16psi. On a good sunny day with good prep I'm up at 16 but once the sun starts going down I'll start lowering them in .5 psi increments.

I would start at 15.5 if I were you which seemed to work well when I was on the 275's on my stock rims.

Thanks. I'll make sure to check the pressure before I leave and get it down to what you suggest.

15-16psi was the sweet spot for my mh's when I was at the track also. John from MH helped me out a lot at the track and had me start from 17psi and go down .5 until I found a good spot. Don't be afraid to warm them up good instead of just cleaning them off. Especially if you're going to be launching from 4-5k rpm. I would only launch at 2k since I didn't have a torque converter.

Ill do a second gear dump and a longer burnout if it spins with a quick clutch slip from 5k'ish. It may or may not be necessary. We'll see.

I appreciate the suggestions. Hopefully rain doesn't interfere this weekend.

Is it a good idea to practice launches on the street first or is it so different vs. the track as to be a waste?

I think there's a big difference from the track and street. Depending on track prep that it. Out here at famoso they usually prep the track pretty damn good. In the street, there's always going to be dust, dirt, rocks etc on it so I don't think it's a good indicator on track launches.

+1 on the tire pressure. I like to start at around 16-16.5 and work down. But be ready to get out of it if you start to loose control: you can always run again.
As far as 'practice' on the street, as mentioned, it is quite different; so you have to ask yourself: what would you practice?
Dont worry so much about the r/t, either. Dial in the car first, get comfortable with it. You have so many things to think about: burnout, staging, getting the right rpms, etc.

Hope you get to go, though, and have fun

Thanks and yah I give zero cares about r/t right now. I just want to get it into the 12s and trap 110+.

Yep. They put a message up on the yellowstonedragstrip.com site Thursday. Rained most of Saturday, possible rain today.

Hopefully I can still use my friend's M&H drag radials at the next opportunity. Summer tires are going to be a waste of time if that's all I got. Depends on if he's coming down to race next weekend assuming they reopen then.

Awe man that sucks...rained out. My track is only open once a month so I know waiting blows.

Bummer. They aren't running until memorial day weekend. By then it'll probably be 80 degrees out. Which means 6000' air easy. :/

If its hot I might just have to pass

So I'm starting to think I'm probably just going to give up on ever tracking this car now. They refuse to run events earlier in the year when it's cooler here. We're already looking at record highs next week in the upper 80s.

I could upgrade the pump and heat exchanger, maybe put a bigger reservoir in to ice it all down. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on this car right now. So it looks like I'm pretty much screwed. I really wish I had just bought a centri blower sometimes.

#frustrated :p

Is that track the only one in the area? Is there one in Anaconda or something like that? I think that is 1/8th though. Anything else in the area?

Maybe earlier or later in the year you could make it down to Vegas while its cool.

That's basically what I'm faced with at this point. A 850+ mile drive to go anywhere else where they will open earlier in the year. Pretty disappointing but they don't seem real interested in running earlier at the local (yellowstonedragstrip.com) place. It's mainly the slower street cars that suffer from this issue. The big money big power cars - most of those guys don't care.
