With all the hunting, fishing and cars, it would be hard for me to go and spend money on something i might do twice a year. I have duck waders i could use...lol I have only been once, and it was fun.

So whats the heaviest line weight you use? From looking at that i think the most i seen was 8lbs.

For bass I use straight 3x tippet which is about 6 or 8 lbs. For trout I go down to 5 or 6x flouro which is like 4lbs. You have to for trout and there is no muscling in those big ones, but it does the job. I like lines that stretch.

Trust me once you have a huge bass come up and devour your popping bug whilest jumping 3 feet out of the water, you'll be hooked. A few popping bugs and a flyrod is all I need to keep me entertained the whole day.

Its odd to me that you can get away with only using 8lb line to catch fish. Depending on which lake i fish, i rig up with 85lb braid. Thats also due to me pulling fish out of brush, and not reeling them up a creek.

Im pretty sure i even have 10lb line on my crappie rod and reels. lmao

Yeah totally just a bragging thing. I was at the flyshop the other day and the guy was sitting there spinning one of those $700 reels and timing it. I think it spun on it's own for like 5 minutes. Big whoop.

Thats what i was thinking. I dont think i can justify spending $735 on a reel. If it was my JOB, then maybe, but for me as a sportsman, no way in hell.

Humminbird 858c up front, 1198c and a Lowrance hd5 with Sirius weather and radio. I prefer Humminbird over Lowrance due to past bad experience with Lowrance units. I went with the walleye boat because its good for lake Michigan and inland tournament bass fishing.

I think the last time I used 85lb line was for snagging catfish below the Ark River dam lol. I know for brush it's gonna be hard. When using this light of a line it's all about wearing the fish down. You're not going to muscle them in, but that's the fun part for me anyway.

Yea i just recently bought all of my stuff to switch over to humminbird. I was going to the Lowrance with the down imaging and side scan, but they wanted an extra $600 for that package. It was going to cost me almost 5k for the set up i wanted.

The humminbird stuff came pre-loaded with everything, no extra cost unless i wanted to sync my front unit with the rear one. 998si for the back, and i got the 858c di for the front.

Yea the fight is the almost as fun as the bite. There is no greater feeling than flipping a fluke and having a fish nail it. Top water frogs are a close second though.

Oh yeah, St. Croix rods only....Mojo's are really nice for the money and their warranty and customer service are awesome!

I am a very big fan of St. Croix. I use their rods....the Avid series being my favorite.

I like the Mojo Bass.....I use one for flipping. The only thing I don't like is it being NON retractable, which can be annoying with a 7+ ft rod.

What reels do you guys prefer? I am personally a big fan of the Abu-Revo series (good drag for flipping) and my favorite for just about everything else is a 7.3:1 Daiwa Zillion.

I have many reels, but find myself using the Zillion's and the Revo's the most. (I have several of each model)

MY "go to" reel is, coincidentally BMR colored...:

As far as line, that is one area that I never get fancy....and never will.

My preferred line is Trilene Big Game, mono. Memory is horrible, but it never lets me down....ever. I use it for finesse, worming, flipping, you name it.

Flipping, I use 30+ lb test. Generally, I use 20lb test for plastics.

I use nothing but Shimano reels. 200 CU's and Bantam curados. I have a few citica's as well.

Rods, i have Falcons, Carrot Stix and Kistlers. 90% of them are all 7 ft or longer. The others i have are 6'6"-6'8".

Line is 100% 25 lb trilene fluorocarbon, and Sufix 65-85 lb braided.

Curados and revolution premiers and then all shimano sedonas for my spinning gear. Fireline fused if I need braid for frogs and jigs, seaguar floro for dropshot and stren or p-line on the other rods.

I do on one of my dropshot rods. One rod is 8lb seaguar and the other rod is 12lb nano from berkely with 8lb or 6lb leader.

Texas rig pegged, and weightless only

Why weightless only? I fish both, neither one has proved to be better than the other IMO.

85lb is nuts!! I use that before my wire leader when I fish for wahoo and dolphin! And were talking 20-60lb fish that tear it up in open water!!

I never used more than 20lb for bass fishing and that was for pitching in the hydrilla on lake Okeechobee!

Love bass fishing though. Hated selling my old Procraft. Ended up with. 32' Wellcraft cabin and hated it. Love deep sea fishing but what a bitch to maintain and $500 to fill her up sucked.

When i get outta the Marine Corps I think my old man and I are gonna get a nitro or a stratos and get back into bass fishing. So much in Florida!! Okeechobee, Kissimmee, the everglades, stick marsh/farm 13, and a billions canals and lakes.

Man I wish I could be fishing right now lol

Okeechobee is VERY overrated. The pressure is so great from overfishing. I knew the lake pretty well...the Belle Glade area especially and would consistently bring in a couple 5lbers and the rare 8-10. There's guys that do it all the time. Baffles me. Guess they just know it that much better than I do!

Fish Stick Marsh! In fellsmere. It was a strict catch and release orange grove that was flooded. There's irrigation ditches that hold huge bass in them. Just gotta know where to look and know how use your electronics which I'm sure you do.

Oh and don't plane up there. Too many stumps if you don't know where you're going! I used to take my buddy up there and he always made me drive his boat since I knew where to avoid and what to look for
