Well I know it's easy to search reviews but my question is a little specific, and involving a car that I don't know what fits. Someone elses car. It's a '96 Mustang 3.8 auto with 15" rims. Not sure the width. But he's looking for a good tire to use double duty. Any experienced autoxers wanna chime in with advice on a brand? I'm kinda thinking something a little better then nt555's like a 250 treadwear... Or maybe a grippy 300. Probably will see rain.

Thanks

I run Dunlop Starspecs. Their pretty cheap for a street tire/autox tire. Thread wear is about 200. I run them daily as well as autox and road racing. Great sticky tire. Also Nitto nt05's, i forgot who makes them but RS-3's are great too.

Hankook Ventus RS-3. Deadly good.

I used to have Nitto INVO in 275/40/18 (got 20k miles on them) and replaced them with Dunlop Star Specs in 275/35/18 and I like the Dunlops better for autocross. The Invo had a more comfortable ride, I am sure the sidewall helped, but the Dunlop performs better. On the softer (and pricier side) the Bridgestone RE-11 is a nice tire. The Hankook Ventus V12 is supposed to perform well at a lower price.

What!? The NT05s will without a doubt get more than 10,000 miles. Most guys see around 20,000-22,000 miles on them. Shit, there are even guys with Jeep SRT8s and Trailblazer SSs getting 15,000 and 17,000 miles on them! Not thinking about the NT05R are you?

Well for the sake of argument... my Starspecs i'm on 3 track events at Sebring and daily driving them for about 8k ..and still have a good chunk of tire left.

Data point: I've got a set of 50-55% tread depth NT05's with ~6,000 street miles and 5-6 track days on them. I expected them to be toast by now..but I'm finding they're a nice blend of grip and longevity.
