Sweet pics!
Just a small question, does any of this change if you're using a 2012 blower + intake combo? My understanding was all thats different is the maf is on the other side of the intake tube.

I just got off the phone with Stiegmeyer (they are an Eaton factory-authorized repair and rebuild facility) and they said that it doesn't matter if the bypass valve sees boost or not, IE all methods we have discussed are valid (T off of rear elbow to brake booster reference, ALA Roush, elbow to bypass direct (GT500 method) or Intake manifold boost / vac reference to bypass - all should work.
Alan is going to try doing it the DOB way this week and he will report back on the honking / howling.
Here is the video that was talked about. The start-up tune was not quite right, so the car did not run well, and once the ECU took over it ran much better, but this video does indeed highlight the honking / howling we are referring to.
The car is MUCH better now that it is tuned, but there is still a hint of howl at certain times when idling and at certain RPM's.

Hi DiMora,
Thanks for reporting back. I am glad that you received confirmation from a source you trust for the bypass valve seeing both a vacuum and boost signal.
PLee and myself just finished up his DOB install this afternoon. We installed the vacuum lines per the DOB's manufacturer's recommended instructions. Here is a video of it, please note that this is an UNTUNED DOB manifold installed Mustang.
I did not hear anything unusual that represented the howling/honking noise that you posted of the untuned Mustang from v6tungsten's car. This leads me to believe that something may not be installed correctly or there might be another issue.
I hope this helps.
Damn I cannot wait to drive this thing!!!Thanks again for all your help Matt and Jason!
FWIW, it sounded COMPLETELY different (i.e.- silent) when we had the 2010 stock GT500 intake tube/filter on the car.
Hope to get 'er tuned this week!!
Thats what mine sounds like at idol. I hear the slight howl. It will probably do it at 2200rpm as well. Im used to it now, it doesnt bother me.

NP Pat glad I could help!
Listen to any PD supercharger without a sileincer it will sound the same. There will be a little harmonics but that's due to the supercharger rotors moving air thought a metal case.
That video I posted is of Stri8ed's car. His name is Alan.
No, this howling / honking the DOB manifold makes is unique to DOB. Every supercharger setup is different; I have owned two myself, and this is my first exposure to a DOB.
More than one DOB user has the honking / howling. It is unique to the DOB manifold and not a function of the blower; if it was the blower, GT500's would howl / honk as well.
I do not mind it at all, in fact I think it is kind of neat and sinister. As I have stated before, I personally think it is due to the port where the bypass valve interfaces with the intake (like blowing air across the top of a beer bottle) but that is only a guess. The only way to prove that would be for Jason to chamfer the edges of the bypass valve port on a car that honks to see if it goes away.
All blowers have their own unique sound...some rattle, some whistle, some sound like loose ball bearings (TechCo), and it just so happens that DOB's honk on some cars. That is the price we pay for horsepower and unique mods sometimes.
I could probably list 20-30 without much trouble. Its a complex system.not sure what the other variables are.......
Also the honking on my car seem to be coming from the back of the supercharger were the bypass is located.

Hence my advice about verifying that the bypass is operating correctly or is not damaged. The bypass valve is a variable that could explain everything.
I’m not trying to get you worked up……..but it could be the blower itself. A friend of mine recently had his Whipple rebuilt because it was getting a little “loose” and it sounds completely different now. I doubt that is it in your case, but it is a possibility.
yea, your not getting me worked up. Im watching superchargers on ebay to buy a spare. I've also contacted stiegemeier to price a replacement bypass valve.
How do you verifying that the bypass is operating correctly on a running car? the bypass is under the intake.

How can you afford to do that....
