Look. The only people you see posting about the MT-82 6sp trans are those who have problems with it. There are thousands upon thousands who do not have issues and in all reality, those that do are a small percentage. Vendors on here that run the shit out of their manuals with superchargers and N2O report no issues, even getting into the 9's and beating the piss out of it.

Not to mention that you have a 5yr/60,000 mile power-train warranty standard on every Mustang sold.

No need to buy extended warranties unless you're really paranoid about it. I'm not personally and let me tell you what. I cover a whole hell of a lot more miles on the streets than I do on the strip. I want to enjoy rowing my own gears TYVM.

Having said all of that, my 2011 Mustang GT is the first car I have ever owned that makes me want to roll out of bed in the morning and go drive it. I'm like a teenager again, willing to run errands just to drive my car. And I've had it for over a year now. I turned in a 2009 car in 2010 just to have this 2011 Mustang. I didn't lose my ass too bad in it either. Only by about $1000. The price of enjoying what I drive is worth more than that! And the fun I have with this car is simply sinful feeling!

As a young guy, you have all kinds of time to fix your fuckups. Also, once you get too involved in life, you very well may not have the capability to pay for one. Or, "family considerations" might prevent you from owning a sports car. If you can do it without jacking yourself over on payments, do it. Out of all the new cars, and ALL of the older cars, I've owned, this 5.0 is by far my favorite.

I agree 100%....tons of threads about the tranny screwing up and notchy shifting but some of those people are new mustang owners who never had a mustang, bought it because of the big HP #s and all the hype and now they complain about notchy shifts from 1st to 2nd and are pissed because it doesnt shift like their Acura or Honda Accord. Well guess what......Its a fucking Mustang not a Honda.Ihad notchy shifts in my 05 and 07 from 1st to 2nd,my Cobra had issues going into 1st sometimes and that was cured by doing a 2nd to 1st before I left the driveway. I say dont worry about the small things or let all the interweb hype about the tranny scare you....thats what the warrany is for. They are amazing cars. Its my 5th mustang and my favorite. It was a 04 Termi or the 2011 for me and I am very happy with the choice I made. Go for it!!

Hi-5 brother. Thing is, a lot of the folks bitching about it have never even owned a RWD car! Especially a RWD Sports car like the Mustang with it's solid rear axle. It IS the only car being made with a solid rear axle, so most of these younger/less experienced folks have no idea what gear lashing sounds like that is.....wait for it......NORMAL! And you have an excellent point about going from a Honda trans to a Mustang trans. My old Honda Civic shifted like it had lasers directing the shifts.

The thing is, all FWD domestics/imports I know of do not have direct shift linkage like a RWD car has. That in and of itself makes for a bit noisier, notchier feeling shifter. I bet once MGW gets their shifter to market, the large majority of folks will no longer even have that notchiness to complain about.

Not trying to downplay the fact that some manual Stangs have had issues. There's proof of that. Hell, when my trans had to be replaced due to an accident, my pressure plate bolts were backing out. But cars made after a certain date, June 21, 2010 IIRC, haven't had that problem as far as I'm aware of.

Ford has greatly improved quality wise since 8 years ago. Now a days, they're on top of shit and it doesn't do them one bit of good to have wide spread transmission issues. The Ford CEO, if you've watched that Ford Special that was on a week or so ago, has made it clear he will not tolerate his people fluffing over problem areas with him at the head of Ford. From the top down, Ford is now set up as the single best American Car manufacturer of all time. Again.:evillaugh:

But how awesome is a S197 in comparison? lol

:popcorneat:

Since 5.0 is a subset of S197, with 2005 Mustang V6 base package < S197 < GT500KR, 5.0 is, by definition, a subspace of S197. Therefore, since 5.0 is a real element of S197, it holds that LevelOfAwesome_5.0 = LevelOfAwesome_S197.

BOOYAH, BITCHES! Math is fun!

IDK.. full time student, i'd stick with the car you have now. 5.0s are badass but you've got plenty to get yourself into trouble with now. If i were you i would just drive your car till the wheels fall off. Then go from there..

A solid rear vs an IRS has nothing to do with gear lashing. The gears should still be setup the same way. You shouldnt have more "gear" noise just because its a solid rear.

If your still in school just save your money for the next change. Its not worth going into a ton of debt right now in your position. The 5.0 is a nice car, but its not the greatest thing in the world. The novelty will wear off and you will still be stuck paying a big monthly payment.

^^^^This is true, don't live outside your means. You have plenty of time to build your credit or save and not have to have a hefty car note. Do it the smart way.

I traded in my 2010 MT5 for the 2011 MT6. I cannot begin to describe the difference to you but my ass dyno says its a huge difference. I am glad I made the switch, right now Ford is offering zero percent financing for 60 months as well just as long as your credit score is over 715. They wont bring that up to you unless you tell them.

The new 5.0L is awesome, indeed. I traded in my supercharged '07 GT automatic coupe (ran high 11's in the 1/4 mile) for my '11 GT coupe (manual trans, 3.73's, and Brembo brakes) and the '11 5.0L feels almost as powerful as my '07. A couple quick, cheap mods and it'll be as quick as my '07 was.

As others have mentioned, the problems with the '11/'12 MT82 manual trans are being blown out of proportion. I have had zero problems, as have most 5.0L owners. Of course, I've owned 6 stick shift Mustangs and raced them all, so I consider myself an above average driver with a manual trans. Perhaps experience has something to do with the reported MT82 issues, or maybe it's just bad luck? Either way, most of us are having zero problems.
