Just had a new hurst shifter installed and all was fine for three weeks. Now I have a rattling noise when I rev up. If I let go of the shifter, it rattles.

Anyone out there have the same problem and is there a fix?:damnit:

my number one complaint, I'm just too lazy to pull the console off and look at it, I used loctite on everything too, that's the real kick in the balls about it. So I know it's all tight, been like that almost a year now. My fox vibrated the same way with it's Hurst shifter, louder actually, but nothing in a fox is quite., I think it's just a byproduct of the poly, though my old mans 07 Shelby never made a peep....

get a piece of 2-2.5"pool hose a couple of inches long. (the bendable, compressible stuff with the plastic ribbing that keeps it rigid) cut a piece long enough and install it around the bottom of the shifter between the linkage and the shifter. you want it long enough that you actually have to comprewss it around the shifter to put the linkage on. it puts enough pressure on the linkage that it will stop the rattling, but it wont affect the shifting in any way

It is a completely normal characteristic of the Hurst Short Throw Shifter.

It went away in my car after about a year. I just didn't mind it after awhile.

LOL... That is a great idea. Wish I read that 3 years ago!

The Hurst shifter in my 2008 Shelby GT just started rattling. Never had that problem with my Roush shifter.

Rattle

I has the same rattle.

I bought mine from a member of another site. A week later it started to rattle. A race shop guy told me that Hurst has a thin metal spacer at the base of the shifter that you can only access if you completely take the shifter apart. He said he did his and replaced his spacer with a plastic one. Problem solved, I guess.

Anyone want to be the guinea pig?

I had two of them. One on my 3650 and one on my 6060. ould not buy any other for my own car.

Switched to an auto now, so I went TCI because of price. Not too impressed. Won't make that mistake again...

My Hurst looks good, I believe and it does not rattle at all. Not that I could hear it! Bill

That's a wild setup Bill. I had that grip on my shift level for 2 days. I didn't like it. It looks better with the rachet lever.

What switches are on the remote plate?

The three on the right are for the nitrous, the two green are for the ARB Air Locker and compressor and above are for the inner cooler pump and the second for the fan. Realy don't like them here going to move them up on the cage. There are three more, one for the lind lock, one for the trans brake and one for the OD. Bill

I'm not so sure pool hose is going to take the temps. If it works for you, great..

I have a notion that the rattle is coming from the shifter ball because my shifter was quiet for a few weeks, maybe two months until I had to go in and remove the center console. The only thing that was removed shifter related was the shifter ball. and it started rattling immediately after that.

I have heard (but haven't tried yet) that adding a dab of silicone to the inside of the ball will help. One thing that I have tried is messing with the height of the shifter ball. Try moving the jam nut more upwards (towards the headlinder). Meaning, that the shifter ball is tightened down in the middle range of the threaded section of the shifter. It eliminated it for a little while, but it came back, but not as terrible as before. I'm thinking MAYBE the threads got damaged from over tightening and the hurst shifter balls just can't take it and they are kinda "one time use only."
