I don't know if the CJs use the Strange 9", but that's all it is. A bolt in Strange Engineering 9" from an article 5.0 Mustang Magazine ran about three years ago.

Actually, if you add up how much you'll pay for an upgraded diff or spool, bigger gear, upgraded axles, c-clip eliminators, race brakes, weld/pin the housing, and assembly, the Strange 9" isn't that much more, and it ships to your door ready to bolt in.

They're just Strange Pro Race brakes. I have a Strange 9" with Strange brakes in my Fox. I accidentally ran 155mph through the traps on my last pass... I didn't think I was going that fast so I didn't pull the parachute. These brakes stopped the car just fine! I'm very pleased with my Strange 9".

They do use a Strange unit, but your pic is of one a bit different. CJs still have shock mounts.

I got a Currie unit with 35 spline axles, spool, and all of the brackets, etc, in the stock location so it was a simple bolt in. I got some options though, so it ended up being $2600.

The strange brakes are sweet. I have them on all four corners. The billet calipers are much smaller so you can run any backspace wheel and they clear. I never pull the chute either and I run 156-158 mph. However they are not meant for street use.

Installed the che. It required drilling 4 holes. The cover studs are a little short and will be replaced.

The plan is to test it out on Friday at a test and tune. I believe it is absorbing some road noise because todays test drive seemed quieter than normal at highway speeds.

All in all it wasn't too bad of an installation.

I ordered the longer studs but got a package containing the exact same studs as the kit came with. It was labeled as being for the frpp and ta performance cover.

I also talked to Chuck. He advised me to back the studs out enough for proper thread engagement of the nuts. He also said they use the same studs for a standard, frpp, and ta cover.

He offered to round up some longer studs but I'll just get some locally at a fastener store.
