HPP

who tuned it?? 6 days of driving it only?? your sure the tune was good??

HPP in Lewisville tuned it. Less than 6 days. No I'm not sure the tune was good, if I knew that for sure I could tune the car myself. Manny has tuned a lot of cars, he got good numbers with good A/F ratio. I'm thinking something was already on the way out the door when I put the kit on and then when he tuned it and I started driving this car really hard with the blower on it, I finished it off.

Im voting rings

I agree. The motor idles a little rough, but not bad. It always had a little pop sound in the exhaust when it was N/A. It doesn't run likes its missing, but smokes a lot. I'm just going to pull the motor and do a build. Pistons, rings, bearings etc. and throw more boost at it!

Did your tuner datalog AF ratios when he tuned your car?

exactly how mine was before I did a compression test. stop driving it and don't hurt the block anymore! trust me if a machine shop can get away with a very light hone job (less than .003) you can get away with a standard bore. Mine was like that and ran fine, But i had a bit of scoring on the #8 cylinder wall so I had to do .005 over.

don't be so quick to blame the tuner, these engines were never designed to handle 200+ more hp just know that it will be built better and be able to handle whatever you can throw at it

Also livernois has a rotating assembly (non coated) coated is not necessary (better) but not needed for 1199 no crank just re balance yours and add 130 for clevit main bearings.. This is only available if you can get away with a .003 over (standard) bore
they had it in stock a few weeks ago! otherwise MMR and anyone who uses manley are on national backorder

Ok, thanks for the info. I do not blame HPP and never said it was their fault. I am also not saying that you implied that.

What is the benefit of the coated assembly, and what is the coating? What are the other options if this is not available?

just a normal forged piston.. the rods are the same wether you go coated or not. and the bearings are also the same.. The coating is for heat disapation and if you were looking to make 950-1000 hp than I would say get the coated, But again it is not a need to do thing if you are on a budget!

How much more is it to go coated?

Well, I looked it up and it looks like 1500 or so for the kit. $400 more and it comes with a new factory crank, but shouldn't need that.

1500 is for the rotating assembly (coated) without crank. The crank is 400 more. to get the 1199 price you have to call and tell them no coating. but yes 300 more for coating, and 300 for the crank that totaling 1899

Pulled all the plugs.... Number 8 definitely burning oil, it's black. Number 7 is questionable. The rest of them look good. Found my motorcraft plugs from when it was NA, and they all look good except one doesn't have the light brown like the rest of the plugs. Wish I would have labeled them as I took them out. I labeled my plugs and coils 1-8 as I pulled them this time. I'm betting number 8 and possibly 7 was leaning out and the rings are shot. Got to hot in those cylinders I bet.

Will you upload pics of the original spark plugs, and also some pics of the ones you just pulled?

Seen a few horror stories with blower cars lately, kind of scared to put my paxton on now...

Its all in the tune....choose your tuner wisely ....there are a lot of us that are trouble free ...also good maint and not beating the snot out of it constantly helps it last a bit longer too. Also of note make sure you use good gas ...don't cheap out ...I never use the cheaper outlet type stations
