I am finally getting around to installing my trunk mounted intercooler reservoir this weekend and was wondering if I should keep my existing Saleen pump and reservoir in the system?

I ordered the lightning pump to mount in the rear but figured i'd just leave the Saleen hardware in place as extra security for pumping and the old reservoir could be used to burp the system. Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

I would not keep the reservoir or old pump as part of the new system since they will both be additional bottlenecks slowing down the flow of the water/coolant. You want as few turns, bends and reductions as possible to allow the smoothest and least restricted flow.

Makes sense. I just figured the having the extra pump would be better.

The issue you may have is if both pumps are not flowing the same I would think that a mismatch like that would cause other types of issues. I will most likely get a good meziere pump at some point but for now the small Rule bilge pump that's in my trunk tank is working ok.

Alright thanks for the input. I'll go ahead and just pull it all out than. Curious what where did you end up wiring up your pump to?

I run the same setup with a Rule intank pump, with no problems. I ran my pump on a always hot switch, so I could leave it on with the car off on hot track days along with the electric water pump. Just remember to turn it off at some point, or a good old dead battery is what you will get.. LOL... I know.

question for you guys running trunk mounted reservoirs...

The I/C reservoir is typically mounted the highest location in the system to assist in removing air bubbles from the system. How do you prevent coolant from draining back into the tank? Since it is no longer the highest component in the system, how do you assure all the air has been removed from the system?

Not had any issues with air in the lines with my. I run clear hoses in the system for that reason when I installed all the stuff. I noticed a little air pocket up around the intercooler outlet, but solved it by just movng the line up and down alittle bit and it pushed on through.

The clear lines helped alot for seeing and air trapped in the system.

I didn't run into any problems either. The hardest part is just getting the system to prime and flow initially. Alot of sucking on the return hose to get it going, but once it does it seems to take care of any air in the lines by itself. I suspect it's not a problem since the tank isn't the lowest part of the system and the lines run below the car and then up to the tank.
