is my battery gone?

was workin on car the other day with radio on.it was cold and the key was all the way forward.when I was finished I went to start the car and it was dead.I jumped it and moved it to the street where it sat all day yesterday.Now I go to start this morning and its dead again.Do I need a new battery?

Yep. If you can jump it off and it still starts, you probably need a new one. Easiest thing to do is jump the car and drive to Autozone or Advanced Auto and let them test it. They can put a load on it to see if it's truly dead. You can charge up a weak battery, but if it can't take a load (Amps), then just because it reads 12.7v doesn't mean it's a good battery.

No. Just like brakes. But that's about a typical lifespan for factory batteries.

If your car is still under warranty and your battery is faulty, then ask your dealer for a free replacement. My Ford dealer replaced mine at no cost when it was slightly over 2 years old.
If it's still good, then the dealer should recharge it for free.

I'd ask the dealer, you should have a 3/36 bumper to bumper.
The stock batteries are not very good.

Save yourself the hassle and just go aftermarket. I ended up going with Optima Yellow Top, my stock battery didn't like my blower and the I/C pump, now with the loads of the I/C pump, and gauges the yellow top gives me solid no hesitation starts!!!

If you only let it run just a few minutes (to move it across the street) before shutting it down, the battery did not have time to charge!

You need to put a battery charger on it overnight with about 2-6amps of current flow to charge it properly. That is the only way to know if your battery has conked out.

If the battery is bad, then you can get a brand new one from the dealer if your car is less than 36 months old and has less than 36,000 miles on it. I have the 4/48 bumper to bumper on my Lincoln MKZ and they replaced the battery on it free of charge when it took a shit.

I've asked dealers on two different occasions to replace my battery under warranty and they never have. Didn't think you would be able too since a battery is listed as a wearable item like clutches and brake pads. But I guess it's good customer relations.

Good deal. The way you should charge a battery that is completely dead is SLOW! Put a 2A charge on it overnight or the weekend. They don't like to be charged fast if they are completely dead. This will take some life out of them. The alternator on your car is going to throw 100+ amps at it if it senses it is dead.

A good battery takes a while to charge up. Conversely if you think your battery is going bad and it charges up very quickly, then it is bad! If you put a battery charger across a battery and it starts pulling 6 to 10 amps and in a few minutes is down to 1 amp. Get ready to buy a new battery!
