Is my stock intake tubing hurting my HP?

So I was looking at MM&FF today while at the hospital, and I noticed that they had an article claiming "57 hp on your 3v". So I looked it up, and it was all about switching intakes on a Saleen S/C'd car and going with (I think) the Saleen Xtreme, or something similar.

My question is do you think that having the Steeda set up with the stock tubing and MAF is hurting my HP? I never really thought that much about it but with the 3.2 pulley, the Hot Rods, Long tubes, and all that, I think, well, more like I'm pretty damn sure I'm gonna have to bite the bullet on that Saleen Xtreme.

Anyone know of another intake setup with a bigger MAF that isn't as expensive as the Saleen Xtreme but similar in performacne?

With a PD blower you're moving such a higher volume of air that the stock intake and exhaust will become the limiting factors. When I removed my cats my boost dropped over a pound and when I added the FRPP throttle body I gained back a half pound.

I don't think Saleen came up with a new MAF, it's probably a SCT BA 5000 or HPX and they just put their name on it.

Is there any reason you couldn't use the JLT 3 CAI? 113mm maf housing IIRC.

I'm not sure...someone else would need to chime in as I'm not all that knowledgeable about MAF sizes and sensor sizes.

FYI, with a 3.2" pulley and a stroker motor at 9.5:1 compression, with Hot Rods, LTs, O/R Xpipe, and the steeda filter, I made 530whp, running at 95% duty cycle almost the whole time. (the fuel is a whole nother issue that im tackling this weekend). Im thinking that the air intake is significantly holding me back because 530 for a 3.2" on a stroker seems a little low. I was looking for more like 560-580

Honestly, I bet that it is holding you back- that blower has got to be hungry, and giving it more volume to draw from has got to be beneficial.

Ok, so i decided to go with the JLT 3 CAI with 110mm MAF. Will my stock Sensor work well enough at around 550whp or should I upgrade to the SCT BA5000 as well??

Lupo, what throttle body are you using? NA cars don't move enough air to benefit from a larger throttle body but PD blowers can definitely take advantage of the larger butterflies. I went with the FRPP 62mm tb and picked up a half pound of boost. My Roush CAI flows plenty of air.

Thats my next mod is the BBK 62mm TB. Stock right now. I just ordered the JLT CAI 3 and was wondering if a new Mass Air Sensor will benefit or if 550whp is still enough for the stock

Are you close to pegging your MAF currently? How much bigger is the new housing? Going to a bigger housing gives you a little more range with the same sensor. But it's usually at a loss of resolution on the low end of the MAF transfer.

I would talk to your tuner. I'm sure he'll know if you're close and need a new MAF. You'll need a tune with the new intake anyway.

IMO I'd get the new TB before the CAI. And my personal opinion is that I would stick with the FRPP instead of aftermarket. I've seen many instances of people having issues with BBK throttle bodies but never heard of anyone having any issue with a Ford Racing throttle body.

I would do the CAI first, then an TB. I see a lot of guys running the CAI with a stock TB with Saleen supercharges. The TB and series VI.5 lid are probably the last 2 HP upgrades I'm going to do, although they are on the list. I've never seen anyone run just the upgraded TB without a big CAI, doesn't mean it hasn't happened though.

Stock sensor should be fine, if not I have a VMP HPX Maf I can sell you.

I'll keep that in mind after I get back from the tuner with the new pump and the CAI. I'll ask him if it'd help my setup or not. He'll know much better than I would

Thanks for all teh advice. I already ordered the new intake but I may hold out and buy the TB and tune it all at once. We'll see how booked up my tuner is.
