Is my tuner locked to the shop that sold it to me?

But the custom Mustang tune is now in the tuner for safe keeping. I was free to now plug it into a F-150 and load the F-150 custom tune.

The guy who sold me the unmarried tuner had the custom F-150 tunes. The x4 people would rather sell me a custom tune then for me to use the canned tune. It would be possible to use it for both the Mustang and F-150 custom tunes on the same device but it must be unmarried each time to use it.
you can't use a F150 tune on a Mustang, so that's why SCT suggested a new tune, it's necessary.

in theory you could de-tune one

That was not the issue. I wanted to use the canned Mustang Tunes. The 4x people said they were crap and a $125 custom tune was really what I needed. In order for me to get the Mustang Canned tunes, I must reset the tuner which I did. No more F-150 custom tunes. Then I loaded the updates on line. It took almost an hour with all the updates. Now it was a fresh SCT 4X ready to go without any custom tunes but about 10 canned tunes for a Mustang GT.

I see, I don't know what you mean by the "4X" people, however, custom tunes are always better than canned, but I'd get a tune from Lito or Lund before I did SCT

I select Program Vehicle and under available custom tune(s) I have 3 tunes to select from. 91/93 race, 93 race, and inspection tune.
Juice described exactly what you need to attempt. Select the tune you want to run and it should present a list of options you can adjust. If the options are locked you will have to have the shop that wrote the tune give you access or make the change for you. Do not update your X4 from the SCT website. It will wipe out your custom tunes and leave your X4 unmarried.

There is a bit of misinformation here:
1 Updating the x4 does not erase tunes or unmarry the device, a factory reset of the x4 erases your custom tunes. And you have to unmarry device to reset it.
2 An X4 can only be used on one vehicle at a time. It isnt the f150 tune thats the problem. It is the device being married to the f150.
3 Lito does not tune coyotes.

At 17:13 the screen is there for options. You skipped it. They looked like they were accessible. Scroll down for gear change.

Well for sure my tuner I purchased was unmarried and had custom tunes for a F-150. My choice was to purchase a $100 Custom Mustang tune which could be added or reset the x4 to all canned tunes. One custom tune will lock out all canned tunes. Just push the reset and the tuner does it's thing. I also went on line and just about everything needed updates. It took about an hour of downloads.

Now that makes sense.
It is possible to have both, custom and canned tunes available. By default, custom tunes disable preloaded tunes. The box preloaded tune has to be unchecked in the SCT software, while loading custom tunes. And both will be available.
So, if you did a reset on the X4, it would delete the F150 tunes, and make the canned mustang tunes available.

You have to be one of the luckiest SOBs ever...Fishing out that breaker bar left on the crankshaft at 19:00 after the first start (without damaging the engine) should go down in history as epic. Now go buy a lottery ticket.
