Was the machine shop able to take this thing off without damaging the crank? Just curious on what happened/what the cause of this was.

Went to the shop this morning. We put the assembly in the press and the hub split at the keyways but came off the crank. It welded itself to the crank. The crank will be fine after they Polish it back up.

As for why it happened IDK. I would have to assume the balancer was moving a bit on the crank. I will triple check the TQ this time around though.

The Balancer is on its way to IW today to get a new hub and they are going to cut the second keyway for me there so when it arrives back here on Fri. it will be ready to bolt on.

Holy shit, its like its welded on there or something.

I am a genius.

So if the balancer at one point was moving around a bit--any evidence of that on the rod or main bearings? How did they look?

IW is great to deal with and they are pretty close to me. You need to tell them you have a 800+ hp car tho as they are built differeently but normally they ask when you have one serviced.

Let me know if you need anything Billy

I would suspect some wear on the bearings if it was moving.

any vibrations? (i know on a 900+hp car that is kinda a dumb question lol)

Who put the double key in the crank? My guess is the the key ways are not in the exact same location and preventing the balancer from seating properly on the crank taper.

I would seriously consider getting both checked so you do not run into this again or have any other problems because of it.

Do you know anyone that has a shadow graph in a machine shop? That would probably be the best way other than a CMM.

The balancer has been on and off several times since it was new. Never an issue. I did notice today that the bearing in the crank support has a lot of play. I am going to look for a better one tomorrow.

As for the bearings, they all look good.

I had a ATI balancer/hub split along it’s length right at the keyway. No idea how it happened. It had been on/off a few times. I only noticed because the lower pulley/balancer was wobbling a little at idle. Glad I caught it, that could have gotten ugly!

ATI sent me a new hub, no charge.:thumb:

Talked to IW today and the are installing there upgraded hub that is twice as thick as the standard one I had and sending me the proper front seal to work with it.
