I'm posting this here, because I believe people who browse this particular sub-forum would be best equipped to answer.

So here's my concern: I have stock manifolds, UPR Catted X and a Mac axle-back. That's it. In anyone's educated opinion, will this be enough to trip Laguna Seca's 92db sound limit?

They will let you do a sound check if your unsure

Bring your factory mufflers in case you have to slap them back on

92 is low..last track day i went there there were many many stock cars (vettes with the free flow factory exhuast/911s/f430s etc etc) getting the boot for going over 92 dbs.. My car came in at 99db, :(

Or you can play games and lift going up the hill by the sound meter ;)

Wonderful. Sounds like I'll either be lifting or coasting up the hill. That's the hill towards the corkscrew, right?

between 4-5 i think..most other track do have limits...but there aren't really enforced AND they are alot higher...say 103 db

Rode down there today and took a peek (it's 10 minutes away from my apartment), looks to be aimed at 5-6 with the actual booth planted just outside of 5. However, if they suspect you of trying to cheat the system, they'll apparently send out a mobile mic. Thanks for all the response on this one...I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes.

Wish me luck! I'll be pretty pissed to a) lose out on the $307 I've already spent registering and b) have a world-class track 10 min. away that I can't even race on!

Another thing...Ferrari Club of America is supposedly going to be coming to this event as well. If that's the case, there's no way in fuck I'll be the loudest thing out there.

That AND...I was JUST at ALMS there last weekend...I know for sure there was a lot running that was louder than anything I've ever owned....and that's saying a lot.

Bizz - To answer your question, MRLS is pretty much draped over some mountains. Having looked around, I haven't seen any houses super close. What really pisses me off is that I couldn't hear ALMS going on until I was inside the track area...so is 92db really necessary?

Damn, building a house next to a race track and complaining about the noise is like bangin a chick with STDs and being all surprised when you develop an itch...you knew wtf you were getting into so quit bein a bitch!

maybe its just because the track is in california and they have to say they have a limit to keep it legit... i'm stationed in germany and all of the public drag events claim to have noise limits, but i've got long tubes, off road h and flowmaster 40 series... never had a problem. i have gotten a lot of thumbs up though

My understanding, and I don't know this for fact, is that the land the track is on is municipal owned, meaning the whole deal is government-run... Event organizers, outside of the pro series that run there, apply for dates, which are then selected by lottery. The track also only allows "X" number of exemptions to the noise limit, which are soaked up by the pro series events, thus leaving the "marque" clubs with the noise limit intact. It wouldn't surprise me at all, being in the People's Republic of Kalifornia, if the noise limit wasn't an OSHA thing.

What's sick about it...is that my previous car was a 95 GT. AFR 165s, Comp 274HR, ported intake, etc..O/R X pipe, single chamber flows and dumps. So naturally I get this thing and can barely hear it. So to me, the setup I have now is damn near silent. Thusly, the possibility that it could be considered "too loud for X track" is preposterous to me. lol

Laguna Seca used to be part of Fort Ord back in the day. Not sure who owns it now but the Federal government probably leases the land to Monterey County.

Seca is owned by the county

In order to run without a db limit, the club at the track must pay a very very steep "Permit" fee

Thats why only pro. events can swing it.. :)

Thats what i have come to understand from local track guys

BTW tip of the day, some guys have fabbed up a set of exhuast tips that bolt on to the tail pipes that channel the sound away from the inboard db meter.

Basicly 45-60 degrees bends

UPDATE: Turned out alright. I could have sworn I was amongst the louder cars out there, but noone ever said a word to me. Meh. No complaints here. Awesome track...period!
