Ok, this car has been pissing me off lately. Car has long tubes, catted x, CMDP's, BBR stage 1 cams and ect. Car is tuned by BBR, via remote tuning at GTR Hipo here in cali. So I was thinking this was o2 related due to the car throwing the codes for banks 1&2 upstream sensors stuck lean or rich. I would have to start the car and let it warm up before I could drive it, other wise it would sputter and hesitate for the first 30 seconds after I would start driving. During that warm up it would have the surging idle for about 45 seconds then mellow out. On top of that gas milage was horrible at best. So I swap the o2's for new onces from autozone... yeah I know.... Car runs amazing gas milage is back. Well that last all of 3 days and it starts doing the same thing. So I go and buy the expensive ass OEM o2's and it clears right up, gas milage back, and runs amazing. For a week. Now the issue is tha the car starts right up, but then sputters surges and will die unless i blip the throttle a couple times then its in the clear. I have to let it warm up, other wise the first couple of stops coming to a light it will die. Start it up and its good after that. Its not throwing any codes and is getting bad gas milage still. Am I missing something here? Maybe a bad alt... tune off a little or what? any ideas?

Have u data logged it? Sort of sounds like it is very rich and maybe killing the O2s

Did you do the idle relearn procedure after tuning?

If its the one where you turn the ignition on and push the pedal to the floor for 10-30 secs? If so, I did not.... might try that.

That will be one of my next steps, I just wanted to see if maybe it was something simple that I was over looking.

I had those problems also and I did the clean MAF, TB, reflashed the tune, changed fuel and that was after I pulled the cats. I could get the problem to go away for a short time but it came back. After installing the highflow cats and reflashing it with an old tune turning the rear o2's back on it went away. Why it went way I dont really know. Hope that helps, The other tune migh have been the problem. Check for a vacuum leak is a guess, the manifold screws going up through the CMDP have an 0 ring and if one is torn or missing during installation it might cause a leak until the motor gets a little warm. I replaced one during install as it had a chunk taken out of it during teardown.

Good Luck.

Who did your long tubes? Are you sure the front 02 sensors are actually plugged into the 02 sensors for the front sensors? My buddy with a auto was having similar issues and after checking it out for him we found the place that installed the long tubes had them plugged into the rear 02 harness. So there was nothing plugged into his front harness.

Go to RET in Downey and have Greg do your tune and be done with it.

I did the install for everything on the car. One issue I think I might have overlooked is that I have the o2 harness extensions, and im wodering if maybe they are bad?

I think I will try to get up under the car and pull them out and see if that helps.

while your under there....check the color of the plugs for the 02 sensors....green for fronts and blue for rears, make sure you dont have a blue plug hooked up to your 02 sensors anywhere, both blue ones should just be hanging and not plugged in.

Also, as I've experienced with LT's, if the tune doesn't have the front O2 heaters on for longer you'll get stumbling idle issues and it will also die if you just push in the clutch and coast to a stop.

Because the O2's are so much further downstream, the car can't "learn" its idle as quickly as it could with the stock manifolds. Also, since you have BBK's which are a true longtube, the problem is even worse.

Sounds like a possible tune issue. #1 car needs to be data logged to see what is happening. #2 take the car to GTR and see what they can do for you. You paid them for it.

I agree with checking on your 02 harness connections...but WHY wold the blue ones not be plugged in?

RH

The Blue ones go to the Rear O@s. The Rear O2s can actually just be turned off in the tune so there is no signal at all coming from them.

Hey Ira. always good to talk with you. To me, it sounds like the extension which is very common. I already called AMR for you and having new extension sent as well.

Cheers bud!
