Alright I know that theres about a hundred or so thread's on this topic and ive definitley been using the search button and have gathered a good amount of info but looking to tie up some loose ends.so i jus ordered a set a american racing long tubes and off road H-pipe (thanks to john at bbr for the great pricing) and am looking to do the job in my garage,on some jack stands.so i know its a good idea,if not a must, to jack up the motor but i jus wanted a little more info as to exactly how this is done,i do have access to a motor lift from work so if you guys think this would make life easier dont hesitate to say so.also i read about the motor mounts and want to know if its recommended changing these out at this time,and what benefits that would bring.so any info would greatly be appreciated.thanks

From what I've been reading I think most people have been using a floor jack with a nice solid piece of wood on it lifting from the front of the oil pan. I'm sure others will chime in but that's what I've gathered from what I've read.

Yeah same here some wood and a floor jack.. I would replace the motor mounts unless you dont plan on much hp or dont go to the track. Those stockers move all over place, and wont hold much Tq, might even make your headers rub I know they will with some brands not sure with AR

I used a floor jack and a piece of wood. I think I used a 2x6 about 6" long but it's been a while. I have used a really thick phone book before when I didn't have a piece of wood laying around.

I used a floor jack and 2 phonebooks, and jacked it up from the oil pan. You gotta go up quite a bit, so if you have a strut brace it'll have to come off.

Mounts seem to help in the shifting department.Noticed a little vibration though nothing to really be concerned about.
I installed them because I heard of possible header to body contact with the stockers.

A quick clarification, if you are using the piece of wood, stand it on end and jack the motor up with the wood on the pan rail, not the bottom of the pan.

Did mine in the driveway, too much of wifes craft shit in the garage, did I say I hate craft shit, but anyway when doing driver side I took the nut off the motor mount and and also off the pass side. I couldnt get the steering shaft off, so I just jaked until I could get the header on up in there. I left the nut off the drivers side and you have to completely remove the motor mount on the pass side. Did I say that removing the pass side motor was the biggest job on the doing the pass side. It just takes some patience and you will be fine.

When you say pan rail, do you mean on the side of the oil pan?
If so, don't you have to lift Both Sides?? If not doesn't it lift the motor uneven??

Also does the steering rack have to come out of the car to replace the K-Member w/ a BMR Unit, or just unbolt from stock K and bolt back up to BMR?

It does lift it unevenly but does not create any problems, if anything it makes more clearance as the motor sort of pivots out of the way. Once you've got the header in there, you can let it back down before you bolt it in. If you do it right, the motor should only be lifted for long enough to get the header slipped in there.

If you use the side of the oil pan then you will be doing one side at a time.
Just loosen the opposing side and jack the opposing side up as far as you dare.

Maybe just have to block up the oil pan and lift from the center??

I am also taking tranny out, so I need to decide whether to do the K-Member w/ the tranny out or wait till the tranny is back in??

Not to jack the thread but how important is it to use a heat wrap for headers? I'm about to self install some Kooks next week.

thanks for all the input,ill be using the floor jack then,and if i cant find a phone book,a piece of wood.and i do go to the track very often so i am also thinking of adding motor mounts now,any suggestions on from who to buy them from???

If you're replacing the k-member, Id recommend using one of the engine supports that supports the engine from above. I bet it would be pretty frustrating (not to mention dangerous) to try and work around a set of jackstands or a floor jack holding your engine up.
