I recently bought a 330i BMW, and then a Focus ST. Now the steering in my Mustang feels over-boosted, like I'm driving an old Buick. What can I do to improve the weight and feel of my cars steering? Has anyone used the M-3200-R steering rack on the street? Alignment changes? I'm not looking for manual steering levels of weight here, just something more. Thanks for any 'feedback', lol.

Hmm, I'm not sure then. I've never heard anyone complain about the steering feel on the 05-10 S197s, just the 11-14s with EPAS.

More caster will give you more feedback at the steering wheel. I went with the Whiteline bushing kit. With the hydraulic system I don't think there is a way of tailoring steering effort there might be with the electric system I think I remember some such talk concerning the red key tune on the Boss but I may be mistaken.

The FR500S/C runs a diffrent rack which is the same as your asking about M-3200-R. It cuts down on the assist by I think 25% or so but not sure. I have it on my FR but I havent tried it yet.

The Whiteline bushings made a HUGE difference with the extra caster for me. Once I toned down the camber settings for the street I didn't feel it as much, but its still better than it was with the stock bushings and aggressive camber. If you're looking for feedback I would start with some bushings. Steeda makes a nice drop in piece that I highly recommend. Taking those stock bushings off was a job I'd avoid at all costs. It has the extra benefit of taller ball-joints.

You can also buy the FR500 piece off of Fleabay. They come naked (no bushings) then put the Whiteline units in. Thats what I am doing.

I did the Steeda SLA arms last weekend and they do improve front end feel significantly. I don't know if it's the bushings or corrected roll center from the extended ball joints but love the way the car feels. Also did the bumpsteer tie rods at the same time. No steering shake or shimmy with the EPAS up to 110 mph. Will have a full track test on May 2. No real increase in NVH.

Installed the Steeda motor mounts this weekend. Used the black/red combo for a little more stiffness than the red/red. Lowered the engine 1/4". Definite increase in stiffness and throttle/chassis response but also noticible vibration at start up, idle and up to about 1500 rpm. Not bad for a street/track car or all out race car but if you are more show than go then this mod is not for you.

TurnOne has an insert for GM p/s pumps to reduce the pressure or flow. Maybe you can call them to see if they can do the same for the mustang pump.

Is there a way to lower the power assist? A larger pump pulley? Some sort or restrictor in the system somewhere?

Steve, we have near identical setups now except I have coilovers. I agree on all counts. The car definitely rides and feels like its a track car. I won't be able to really shake the car down till SVT Superfest next month.

The steering rack is how Ford cuts down on the steering assist but you also need to use the power steering cooler with it or you will burn the power steering unit up. Just a word of caution. You can get the power steering cooler off of fleabay by looking up FR500S or FR500C. They run about 120.00

We do not. It was more of a collectors item as the only thing different was the logo and paint color.

Someone had a bunch of these on their shelf. It may have been Miller Motorsports for their track car fleet, but I'm not sure.
