Who is using the MSD 2 Step (with an automatic) and what gains have they seen at the track using it.

I Have a Built Motor w/2.8 KB, Built 5R55 Tranny by ATF w/2500 stall PI Converter.

I'm trying to figure out what advantages the MSD 2 Step would give me if I launched it at a higher RPM or would it? Harder 60'?

It basically just helps with my consistency. I've ran w/o it and I would either bog or spin or I would fall asleep at the tree haha. I have a manual though.

On an auto I wouldn't think it would help unless you have a trans brake in which case you would use it to stop the car from blowing the tires off at the line if you powered through the converter's stall.

I have a manual so I can't say for sure if it would help on an auto being foot-braked.

i have one. now my car doesn't make that much power, but since installing the 2 step and the et streets, every 60' time has been 1.67 to 1.69, without fail. i just installed a new clutch, k member, lightweight radiator support and moved the battery to the back. i'm kind of hoping to go under 1.60 since all that has taken place. haven't been to the track in 6 months

Gee thanks, that helps a lot.

Lol... sorry. Hope this helps.

I have a PA 4R instead of the stock 5R. The 2-step is set at 3500 and I launch off the trans brake. My PI converter stalls around 3800. I typically get 60' times in the mid-to-low 1.4x range w/ slicks and have gone as fast as 1.36.

Your best bet is to experiment with it. Generally you'll want the 2-step a few hundred RMP below your converter stall. Start there and adjust 200 RMPs up/down to see how the car responds.

The benefits of the 2-step is being able to launch at the ideal RPM for your setup.

2-step

I have one, but I am running a 4R70W. I put it in when the car was a manual. I had I hard time watching the RPMs and the tree so I put it in and improved my consistency and reaction times. Know I have it wired with my trans brake so I am not over heating the converter.

It's under $200 bucks so just buy the thing and try it out.

this was the whole reason i got it. was bored and wanted something i could do on a day off in the parking space. plus it's just neato

Can't really comment on track times because there was always some other variable BUT, it did make launching a lot easier and consistent.

I have one, I'm also using a 4r. My best 60 is a 1.33. Last sat was a 1.38. I'm installing a WOT box tomorrow and going to test it on sat.

I have 2 , One on the Footbrake , the other on the Transbrake.
My 60ft's are all in the 1.40s on Drag Radials. I have it set at 4000 on the TB and 3000 on the Footbrake.

I had my first outing at the track at Green Cover raceway a few weeks ago while on leave.

Ran the 2-step with it set at 4500 RPM and man that thing launches like a monster. IMO it makes it a lot easier for me to focus on the tree and mentally prepare to launch.

I am using one with the 5R55 w/3800 stall, entirely stock engine my 60' dropped to mid 1.6x and became far more consistent. Just be sure not to sit on it too long before the launch with a stock bottom end.
