Even though I'm more of a lurker, I figured it's worth a post since people keep asking me to PM them :p

I picked up these ZG flares for a 240z http://www.zgfenderflares.com/
Not affiliated in any way with them, in fact I was considering making my own mustang-specific ones to sell...

I got the rear 3" ones and they become 2.5" flares when I've stretched them up over the stock fenders.

I eyeballed the cut based on Fair's pictures of his cuts, and did it with a sawsall while it was on the car, and being careful to not hit the tire... took a few minutes and looks great. The diameter of the opening was about 1" too narrow, but I just stretched it, taped it, and drilled for rivets, and it came out fine. I don't really care how my car looks, so I just used zip ties in the front bumper plastic, although there's probably a better solution out there.

I did it on the front so I could have 62 degrees of steering angle... but they should work on the rear no problem... it's the same diameter.

So is your front track wider than the rear?
