It's amazing how many people overlook a higher stall converter as a mod. Makes a big time difference, I just wish I went higher

Optimally you want your converter to leave at the peak of your torque curve to generate the best E.T.

Thanks, that helps. But that would be like 4500rpm for me. Seems high.

There are more factors to consider when making a TC purchase. Cams, HP, gears, type of blower if any, etc... I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of the TC and go over everything with them.

Which one did you get versus want?

It's either 2300 or 2500, I had it changed out when the trans was built and am drawing a blank. Still noticeably better, but ideally want a ~3k

I have a ~3500 stall and sometimes wish it was higher. When and if my current one wears out I plan to get a 4000-4200 stall as long as there are no near future power adder plans insight.

Torque converters are amazing upgrade. I just put a 3200 Circle D in mine since my trans had went out anyway figured it would best to do it now since I had an excuse. Changed the whole feel of the car. I switched the o2 sensors wiring harness while the trans was out so left side of the motor was reading off the right o2 and vice versa and car ran ruff like it had bad gas in it and car was stronger then than it was before the stall and running perfect. So I would say that a stall is something to think about for sure if your an auto.

^ yep, this

Agreed with completely. I was really hoping to find a stall that was around 3500rpm, but stumbled upon a steal of a deal on the used TCI.
Before I would pay $500 for a new TCI, I would spend a little more and get a used higher stall with better reputation in the 5r55s, although I still think its a great converter for the money compared to the price of others (as long as your not putting big power to the ground).

LOL, I wish could find a TC for $500 for my 6r80.

I ran a 4800 rpm stall converter on my '07 GT. Your '11 makes just as much power as my '07 (393 rwhp, yet only 303 rwtq), but with that big converter, my '07 GT ran as quick as 11.79 @ 114 in the 1/4 mile. That's a full second and change quicker than your '11 GT, even though you have as much - or more- power than my '07 had.

My '07 was a daily driver and the big stall was easy to drive on the street. It only flashed to 4800 rpm's at wide open throttle. City fuel economy took a hit, but highway fuel economy was unaffected (I had it programmed to lock up in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears in my 5R55S trans).

You really want the stall (flash) speed to be right before your peak torque. Awesome mod for any automatic GT !!!

Yeah, only reason I'd be hesitant to go so high is I would hope go FI in a few years and don't want to have to buy another TC. Oh yeah, the time in my sig was when the car was completely stock. Since the dyno I've gone 12.79@111 which corrected to 12.33@115 with sucky 2.0 60's. That's why I want a TC, I'd be right with your 07 or hopefully a little better.
