So this past weekend I got my Comp NSR Stage II cams, FRPP 4.10 and the FRPP carbon T-lok rebuild kit installed. Did the work at home in my garage. Decided if I did it at work I wouldn't be able to drink beer and work at a relaxed pace...lol.

Anyways, the rear end is all in spec and not a hint of noise. Reused the factory pinion shim and the pinion depth was perfect. Pinion bearing preload was set to 22" lbs. Shimmed the diff and got the backlash set to .006" (stock gears where at .017 = ouch, more than likely my gear whine cause). Perfect middle contact patch. Installed the new LPW diff cover and filled with friction modifier and...... royal purple (got it for $14 a qt. and couldn't pass it up). Did about 3 heat cycles for the gears to break in. Took about 3.5 hours on the rear end and about 1.5 hours on the cam install.

Car runs and sounds great. The cams sound better than I expected. Deeper idle and a nice lope as well (longtubes help). Exhaust is overall louder and car pulls great, especially past 4500 RPM. Now to get it on the dyno and check the AFR. Then track times this spring!

I love it!

LOL thanks fellas. I am going to get a sound clip up soon, promise. Just haven't had the time yet. I want to get my AFR checked and make sure it is high 12's - very low 13's. I got an upadated tune from Brenspeed when I purchased the cams and it feels pretty good. Just want to make sure it's optimal.

What would you like to know about the cams? I did the gears Saturday and drove around with them a bunch. Then installed the cams Sunday afternoon. I could CLEARLY feel some nice gains over 4500rpm (sotp). The engine has a longer power band and keeps on pulling past 6400rpm. I have been shifting at about 6500rpm. Didn't notice any low end loss but then again I did gears the day before. The idle sounds good, no thumprs but definetely noticeable. Perfect driveability!! If you putt around in 1st gear and let it idle you can feel them "camming" a bit (lugging). The car rocks/shakes a little at idle (I have prothane mounts though). I like it.

My previous best time before the longtubes/cams/gears was 12.9 (forget the speed) on MT drag radials. So I am shooting for a mid to low 12 on sticky tires and good weather.

I ran a 13.5@104 bone stock back in 2007 (unless you count A/B's as a mod :p). So I am hoping I have somewhat of a factory freak...lol.

Are you a mechanic? How did it only take 1.5 hours to install the cams? Any special tools needed for it?

Yeah, I am a master tech. I work at AAA Car Care Center in Va Beach. I have done quite a few cam installs over the years, mostly 2 valves (my old T-Birds and some side jobs on other stangs). Really nothing to it. I have LOTS of tools but for the cam install, the only special tools I really used was the timing chain wedge from OTC and torque wrenches. Along with that I used your regular air tools and hand tools. I did not use a spring compressor. You just have to remove and install the caps evenly and in small increments while applying downwards pressure on the cam.

I do have the 2 valve spring compressor from when I did valve springs and cams on one a while back. Now that is a bit time consuming.

These cars are AMAZING to work on compared to most other vehicles. I am not the biggest fan of working on cars for free after doing it everyday for years, but working on the stang is still enjoyable to me. Everything goes easy, smooth and the results are great. LOVE IT!

when I did my cams I was really surprised that the cam tower torque spec was only 89 inch pounds or 10nm. what cams did you install.

That is good to know as down the line I may do cams and while I do as much work as I can to save money and learn I also know my limitations!

What cams did you go with, where did you get them from and how much were they?

I know you have a baseline tune for the cams, are you getting it dyno tuned to dial it in? I would be very interested in seeing what the numbers increase was.

They are NSR Stage II Comp cams that I got from Brenspeed for $650 shipped (updated tune as well).

I do plan on getting it on the rollers to tweak the a/f ratio if needed. I plan to just add or take away fuel via the X Cal 2 as needed. I really like the brenspeed tune so I am going to stick with it. I had a dyno tune last year and it just wasn't as good as far as throttle response and driveability goes.

I see you are from chesapeake. Where about? I stay over off of Indian River/ I-64 in Va Beach. Ever make it out to Jenro's in the summer?

reving up that car in your garage lol. Must have had alot of fumes inside it with an offraod xpipe.

Nah, the garage door was open and the back of the car was right at the door opeing.

Unfortunately I live with car fumes on a daily basis. I will probably end up with brain damage at some point in my life...haha.

Good prices..did you consider the Ford hot rod coms or the BBR cams?

Where did you get it dyno'd and who tuned it?

I am probably about 10 mins from you as I get off the second Indian River Road exit and live off Centerville and Volvo...I can throw a softball from Chesapeake and have it land in Va Bch.

Lightblade(Jeremy) lives right around the corner from me...small world!

Wow, I live right around the corner...lol. I live right accross the street from regent university off of indian river/stricktland (last street before getting the interstate) on the centerville side of the interstate.

I had it tuned by Brent at DTP in chesapeake. The car felt better at WOT but driveability just wasn't nearly as good as the brenspeed tune (which put down 325rwhp and 350rwtq). DTP uses dyno dynamics and they tend to read even higher then dyno jets. My car put down 338rwhp and 359rwtq SAE corrected with the dyno tune (prior to the cams and gears). A/f ratio was 12.8ish.

I want to keep my brenspeed tune and just tweak the a/f if need be. Brent at DTP does a great job and probably could do better if I took it backand requested it. I just didn't have time or money to go back. He tuned by buddies 04 GT that I installed a procharger on last summer and it turned out great.

Well this is the only dyno dynamics I have been on and it appears to me that it read "higher" numbers than what others have put down with similar mods. At the time I was skeptical on my numbers so I researched on the net and many folks say they tend to read highest out of mustang, dyno jet and dyno dynamics. I'm just stating my experience, not facts. If that's the case then I would be breaking records for S197 power levers per mod...lol.

I saw a 2010 Camaro SS Auto dyno like 314rwhp right before mine was put on the rollers with no changes made whatsoever. here is a vid from that day:

On a dynojet at virginia speed a few years ago I put down 298rwhp and 314rwtq with Brenspeed tune, C&L Racer and o/r h being the only mods. It was hot as hell that day too. I HIGHLY doubt long tubes and delete plates netted me 40 hp. Thats why I feel they read higher than dyno jets.
