I have a 2006 GT and my chain guide came to pieces and turns out a lot of the plastic got down into the oil pan. Guess my only option is to drop the oil pan? Also saw some threads on other sites but no one really gave a definite answer on what was required to drop the pan. Anyone done this and knows what was required? Appreciate you guys.

lift the engine off the mounts with a lift

should be able to wiggle the pan out from between the block and K member

The motor is attached to the K-member.

No kidding!
I was thinking that if you unbolted the engine from the mounts and supported it from above with a cherry picker, you could drop the K-member from underneath and create more clearance for the oil pan.

well yea dropping the k member entirely will provide room

but leaving it and raising engine can just provide clearance IIRC

Either way more clearance will be needed between the motor and k member. Many ways to do it. What really gets in the way is the oil pump pickup and how it fits in the pan.

The oil pump pickup has a screen that will keep most debris out. What can fit through the screen will be filtered out by the filter. Best practice would be to remove the pan but it's probably not going to be necessary. It depends on what actually went into the pan and if it could somehow block the oil pump pickup screen.

Haha, but it's like 10 more steps to do it that way, no? Why not unbolt the motor and just lift it with the cherry picker? Same same with less work. Call me lazy.

Nothing wrong with trying to do it with less effort. It's just a question of whether that alone will gain you sufficient clearance to lift the oil pan out past the oil pump pick-up tube. If not, you'll have to drop the K-member anyway.
Maybe someone who's actually pulled the oil pan off their 3V can answer that question.

Montreal Qc,
94Tbird and I pulled his pan off with the K-Member in place years ago.
We lifted the motor by placing a jack under the crankshaft pulley.

Unbolt motor mounts and lift motor as much as u can with a hoist or jack. Using a jack on the crank pulley though causes a lot of stress on that crank so be careful if doing that way. Than loosen the k member bolts but do not take them out and let it drop down. Make sure u unplug the oil sensor. Than u can take the pan out. That's what I had to do for my 06 gt.

yea, safer way is straps around headers/points you would lift engine with crane and use either said crane, or that support that goes across the strut towers.

i think ive even seen someone use a strut tower brace after removing the intake manifold for clearance
