Prothane motor mounts failing?

I just checked mine and they are very bulged. Guess I need to reach out to Prothane. Mine are just over 1 year old.

Replacements are likely to do the same thing, the bushing is just cold flowing. My hose clamp solution seems to be working beautifully, FWIW.

Well, I just sent an email to Prothane, if they get warrantied I'll try and remember that suggestion about the hose clamp. Looks like it works.

I wouldn't call any of this failure, the motor mounts aren't failing or casuing problems or issues, the bushings are just bulging. Engine isnt going anywhere and the mounts are still stronger than stock.

I guess i dont see what the big deal is, mine have been in for over a year and look fine, if they start to bulge, they are going to stay in.

Alright cool. But, what are the differences between, say, the Prothane motor mounts and the "heavy duty" Steeda motor mounts?

If there is a gap between the bottom of the plate and the urethane bushing because the top bushing is flattened. Then the motor mount is not going to control rocking of the motor. The motor is free to rock at least the size of the gap. That is why there is a bushing on the top and the bottom. This can and does happen with other designs as well. It also happens with rubber bushings. There is a difference depending on the design but almost any motor mount can wear out over time. It does seem though that these aren't lasting as long as average.

Even with a couple mm gap from the bulging the motor is not going to even move near as much as the stock jelly mounts.

It's a design issue. A softer bushing material like they use for the sake of NVH will settle like this sooner or later. If they'd leave material on the mounting bracket to cup around the outside top bushing, I bet there would be none of these problems. In a sense, this is what the hose clamp does..and while not as elegant as a nice CNC'd billet piece, it has the advantage of being adjustable (by tightening or loosening the clamp, you're effectively setting a pre-load on the mount).

The Lethal mounts I installed are still holding up, no bulging. The bushings aren't as thick, so that could be why.

Better look at my prothanes when my car comes put in spring!!!! Only have "maybe" 2,000 miles on them...but lots of dragstrip passes...lol
