hey guys... i got a question about super chargers, mainly twin screws such as the kenne bell.

how come on the 03/04 cobra the kenne bell whine is so ridiculously loud (which i like... :)) but on our 05+ you can't even hear the whine from outside???

may be a stupid question but i've always wondered that

You'll find that the intake design has a lot to do with how the whine resonates. For example, a closed box design like the modified stock box used with my Saleen 475 kit is pretty much silent as far as whine goes. Whereas using a big open element such as the WMS intake, results in a BANSHEE scream on the same supercharger on the same engine.

OHHHHHHHH

makes sense, same as if on a stock turbo car when you have the stock intake box but when you switch to an open style intake it makes the turbo noise loud, right?

yup, had 6 different intakes on my old lightning and the best was the open filter, you could hear my magnum powers blower from like a mile away...it was great for waking the neighbors
but then you also have to realize that the open filter will induct more fan wash and heat from the engine=power loss if not at speed....so i switched to a large filter element in an enclosed box by JLP...works great and my IAT2's were down because of it

love the blower whine!

I'd suggest the Techo unit, as JDM can tune the crap out of it.

The loudest would have to be the WMS intake though.

plus you have to look at boost levels...if you are comparing KBs on termi and S197...most guys i know running boost on termis are in the 20s...which give you that whine! If you have a S197 and a forged bottom end or built motor and run your boost in the low 20s, you'll hear the KB whine!!!

Whipple 2.3l whines pretty good WOT. In fact, when I'm WOT I can't hear my exhaust at all, all I hear is blower whine.

And from the outside, yes you can hear it just fine. It's fairly quiet (non existant?) at idle, and part throttle though, the sound doesn't really wake up until you get into the boost.

My Saleen is the exact opposite, and my exhaust isn't even that loud, the saleen is just that quiet!

It may be difficult to tell the actual volume, but here's two clips of mine, therese were at 8spi, stock exhaust with flowmasters in the rear. I'm at 10psi now, the whine isn't really any louder than 8psi, but it's higher pitched. You can really only hear the supercharger when the car is facing the general direction of the camera
