Hey guys,

I was looking over the rules for Ultra Stang and was very pleased they allow slicks now. I took the coilovers off the rear so I'm good there but the tranny has me concerned.

The rules state that it must be a 2005-2008 mustang transmission.

Does my AOD count since it is 'made for' an 05-08 mustang? I know I can't use the brake and won't - but am I even eligible for the class without a 5r55 or stock manual?

Also - is true street the 'fastest' times or is it judged by the 3 most consistent runs?

Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I think there are multiple winners (8 sec, 9 sec, 10 sec, 11 sec, and 12 sec). The car with the quickest 3-run average above those times are the winners.

That's not an AOD. It's a 4R70W. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink, you know what I mean?)

You're legal. It's not a points earning race so I don't give a shit. If they ask you in tech your correct answer is, "4R70W transmission." I'm betting they don't ask. So don't offer it up anymore. If you use the transbrake Sammy (our official starter) will know it right away and you'll be busted. Foot brake the car and you're in the class.

From what I understand there will be no True Street at Fontana.

Ok all better now, please see above.

PS you cannot run a 2 showdown classes with the same car, IE U/S and True Street.

Fast Ford (or Fast Challenge), Quick Ford (Quick Challenge), and Street Ford (Street Challenge) are bracket classes. Everything else is considered a Showdown class. Even True Street.

Cool... then that's my plan. I'll run U/S and my wife can run in the Saturday Quick Challenge. And we can both get in a few time trial laps on Fri/Sat.

To answer the original question, the answer is so long as it is a Ford-derived transmission of some kind, you're good.

So Turbo 400s, Glides, etc. are out.

That's the Super Stang rules, Chris. At the NMRA, if you interpret the rules the way I do, you can legally run a C4.

FFW rules state:

CLUTCH, TRANSMISSION, REAR END
Any 2005-2008 Ford Mustang transmissions permitted. Internal modifications permitted. Any clutch assembly permitted. Aftermarket rear axle housing permitted. Aftermarket 1-piece drive shaft permitted.

Based on that......the 5R55S should be the only automatic that is legal. If you remove the word "Mustang" from the wording (which was the original wording at the beginning of the season) then you could legally run the 5R55S or the 4R70W since the latter came in the '05 Crown Vic.
