Shorter rear tire

Can someone correct me if I am wrong, but if I use a shorter rear tire, will it in effect be as if I am using a taller gear?

For example, I am still using 3.31 gears, and 3.55 gears are 7% taller. So, if I were to get a rear tire that is 7% shorter than the front, would that in turn act similar to the acceleration from a 3.55 gear? or would there be a negative effect?

I only want to do this because I was given a free pair of 17x9 rims and wanted to throw some drag radials on them. I would still be using the stock 18x8.5 235/50/18 front wheels. This would be a nice cheap alternative until I can afford some 15" rims.

Yes, a shorter tire will increase your effective ratio. The potential drawback would be if they caused a extra shift.

my best time trapped at 111mph and I was around 5800rpm in 3rd, so the car will probably hit 4th.

That is ok for now, as I am most interested in working on launching. I have only been to the track a couple times, and have not used a drag radial yet.

how high are you willing to rev the motor?

also what transmission auto/man?

using the stock auto right now. My tune has it shifting about 6300 at WOT.

you'll def shift to 4th with a 26" tall tire, 3rd will run out around 95mph

Ok, i will try it out..gonna grab a pair of NT05R DR's and see how it goes. I am getting a set of 3.73 gears and a tru trac installed in mid august, so that will be more to test out...
