I made about 30 passes this year and I still could not get good repeatable results doing burnouts. I didn't realize how bad they were until reviewing the video.

The tires were 275/40/17 ET streets (MTs).

I would put the car in 2nd, rev up with the tip of my right foot, with my heel on the brake, then drop the clutch.

The problem on the video seems to be I just sort of slide around in the waterbox and slowly roll out of it, at which point the tires start to hook hard and I let off (usually going sideways in the process). Hardly any smoke was created despite the wheels spinning.

I think the problem is either
a) too much water in the water box
b) in the wrong position in the water box

Basically I would just move forward until the track worker gave me a sign. Then I would proceed to perform the burnout. I'm wondering if I should just roll through the box to wet the tires then do the burnout at a dry spot?

Are you doing your burnout in the water box or just outside of it? Never mind, I just saw what you wrote at the bottom of your post. You want to pull through the water box to wet the tires.

This video shows a decent burnout and my relative position to the water box. Note I'm just outside of it.

I will also add that a big mistake a lot of newbies do is focus on rpm's. They mean nothing in the burnout. You have a rev limiter so don't worry much about them. What you want to focus on is the MPH. You want to be at least 50-60 mph for a few seconds - that's what's important. If you are going 50+ mph - garuntee you are lighting up the tires...

Yes and if your doing the burnout in the actual water box your slinging water into the wheel well......water that can drip down on to the tires during your run. Which can be a huge problem when your ET's start going down!

Ah yes, the video makes me think I've been doing the burnout in the wrong position, but of course I've been relying on the track workers, not any more.

Yeah, you need to either pick a spot to pull up to or use a mirror to make sure you're out of the water box. It's probably hurting your 60' pretty bad.

Nah, blew the tires off on that one. I just posted it because you could see the car compared to the water box pretty good.

This one was way better!

But thanks!:thumb:
