I'm very familiar with that diagram. I have built a few custom kits over the years, I've always angled my wastegates to flow in a natural direction like the first pic. I don't wanna knock Bobby's kit so I'll just wait to see how it works, it may work just great! Plus can't really see how Bobby's pipe is really routed by the pics, maybe it is at a angle underneath but we just can't see it.

I'm by no means trying to be controversial guys. I'm getting ready to spend another buttload of cash on this car to get this stroker where it deserves to be so I'm just trying to do my homework and ask questions. I'd kick myself in the ass if I didn't. I could school people all day long on OEM diesel ambulance maintenance but I'm constantly learning more about gas high performance now that I can afford to pursue it.

Yes it will have that angle. Its kind of funny but its kind of the only way the pipe will fit. It will go back then turn towards the front. If the pipe is too long and doesnt work we will move them to under the car and make it short.

Hmmm. Well I'm a little confused here. The photo from the passenger side your showing puts the wastegate low and back towards the firewall surrounded up top by a bunch of wiring harnesses. That doesn't look like an easy spring swap location to me. But if you go back to the first photos that Bobby posted: http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91346&page=9 it shows the wastegate on the passenger side higher up and to the front where the spring can be easily changed. Why are these photos from you and Bobby so different?? From your photo Dillon it looks like the wastegate pipe is awfully close to the exhaust manifold and the body also. Seems like some rubbing and vibrating could occur.

The more I look at the wastegate routing the more I don't like it. I just don't see the practicality of it. Sure..... an easy spring change is nice, but once my psi is set and I have a boost controller I don't need easy access. I mean you've got this snake of a pipe coming up to the valve, then you've got to fit a pipe from the valve to dump it back down towards the street. Just really isn't necessary when all you need to me is to have the wastegate attached right there on that flange by the starter. Not only would it be less piping it seems like boost regulation would happen faster. I'm no engineer so I can't say that for sure. Of course, I'm just looking from a photo and I'm not there in person to see if putting the wastegate right there by the starter leaves enough room. I'd rather take the extra 10 minutes to put the car on jackstands for a spring change than to have those long hot wastegates to deal with under the hood. There are a lot of wiring harness on that passenger side and the heat from the wastegate pipe can't be good. I say if it's possible, put them under the car. If there is not enough room than I guess you have no choice.

So Dillon, have your turbos come in yet?

yes i was at work last night when i got them. i need to look at it in person to let you know for sure. pics are very deciving. this guy does this for penskie racing so he know exactly what he is doing. we may end up moving it under the car or a little more forward.

does comp offer internal gated? that would clean things up a bunch and make it real simple.

What does he do for Penske ? Just cause he is in charge of gluing lug nuts to the wheels doesnt make him a expert on engineering a Turbo kit.

I also would be concerned with venting very hot gases under the hood and anywhere near plastic harnesses.

I applaud your efforts on trying to design a kit that will make gobs of HP but keep in mind that it must be marketed for the masses. Why build a capable of 1000+ HP when realistically there are only a handful cars out there willing to invest in everything that is needed to do that and stay together. I would be very interested in your kit for the power level you are saying but the fact that it is being designed as a race type kit(no sway bar and custom radiator support) is keeping me away.

Not sure I agree with you on the built for the mass's comment; I would think the single kit we offer that keept the HP under 500 would be for the mass's, those with forged engines looking for a TT kit supporting 7-800 HP would be the minority.

Yes they offer internally gated turbos.

We will be doing testing in several spots. But this location was said to be the best if the wg in in the engine bay by the engineer at Penske.
