solved my valvetrain noise issue - with pics

No updated follower or lash adjuster. I just got off the phone with the parts dept to order my parts. The only part that has been updated is the housing. That part number was already posted in the ticking thread.

They're actually cheap stamped steel. Either way, not the greatest.

i STUDIED THE FOLLOWER VERY CLOSELY YESTERDAY. lOOKS LIKE THE BEARING IN THE ROLLER FAILED. mOST LIKELY AN OIL ISSUE. i BAUGHT SOME 10w30 FORD SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL LAST NIGHT. gONNA LOOK AT THE HOUSING AS WELL. ALSO GOING TO CHANGE THE VALVE SEALS ON #7 & #8 CYLINDER

Good. Take pics and do a write up! Not sure I would go with 10w30 in the winter time tho. Why do you want to use such thick oil ?

20W50 IS too thick. Sure it may "work" for some, but for how long? This should be a fine example of why it doesn't work.

Pull the valve covers off and start a cold engine up with 20w50 and see how long it takes for the oil to get distributed throughout the valvetrain on a modular. You'd be surprised and shown that you're starving your heads of oil on every cold startup.

Exactly, I don't see how the cam journals on the heads can't be wiped. Also wondering what the oil pump pickup tube screen looks like, I'm thinking it might be plugged with shavings.

Yes!! Modulars have very close tolerances virtually everywhere and you really don't want molasses in the pan.

Also are you guys referring to the actual oil passages an such or the stock bearing clearances ect. ?

This sounds like a good application for a pre-oiler in cold climates. Basically an electric pump that primes the oiling system and starts the flow of the oil before you ever turn the engine over.
