I had a BMR sway bar delete installed on my car. One the way home through some windy, twisty, bumpy roads . It was the first time i had driven the car in a couple months and i was a little nervous because i didnt know the roads i just added 250hp and the roads were cold. Anyway there was a couple times i felt the car get loose in the front (8days) best i can describe) .
Anyway i plan on running 255 tires on the front. I might even go 275s on the front. My question is will the lack of sway bar be more noticable with 275s on the front? I need to drive it more but i am already thinking of swapping to a rad support and adding a front sway bar. Just not sure if 275sshe and no sway bar will be a issue on a curvy road that has a bump here and there. I am in Michigan and the roads get rough.

The more grip you add and the harder you turn the more weight that is going to be moving side to side. So yes, if you add wider rubber up front you will notice more body roll and all the negatives that come with it provided you are using that grip.

With stock front spring rates, a front swaybar can actually reduce understeer by allowing the front tires to work better. Both by loading the tires up better and by reducing the amount of roll they see (and therefore camber loss). I'm not sure at what point the front bar starts contributing to understeer, but I imagine it between the start of the lowering springs and say, the H&R race springs which are the stiffest non-coilover spring setup for these cars.

Personally, if you are mostly a drag only guy, I'd just unhook one side of the swaybar when you get to the strip and leave it on for daily driving. I can't think of a single reason why it would be a good idea to have it off in daily driving. Especially if you are not familiar with how to react to changes in grip and how to react when you lose that grip. Understeer is inherently safer because the natural reaction is to let off the gas or step on the brake, both help transfer weight to the front tires to make them grip better. Oversteer is much less safe because the safest way to deal with oversteer is to add throttle which is counter intuitive. Letting off the throttle results in a spin since all the weight still transfers forward which reduces grip in the rear of the car.

I have been running without a sway bar for about a year. If I know ahead of time that I'll be driving with a bit more spirit, I can crank up the resistance on my Koni Yellow adjustable front struts. Not exactly the same as a good sway bar but it allows me to corner a bit harder with more confidence.

I am torn....I have a set of brand new AMR wheels (2-18x9 and 2-18x10s) I can either buy 4 brand new goodyear F1s (285x40x18s) for $500 or move my NITTO 555s (255x40x18s) from the rear to the front and buy 2 DRs or ?. The NITTO DRs are about $600 for two. For two M&H 275s its about $500 set.
Just not sure which way to go. Heck the 4 brand new F1s are cheaper than two of anything else. But if I ran the 285s on all four corners I think I would want to go back with the sway bar.

If you need to minimize cash outlay you could just buy two of the Goodyears and move the Nittos up front.

Just on the fence...Go with the F1s ,trow a sway bar on and get some vg handling or throw the NITTO 555s on the front and some sticky DRs on the back and hit the track more.

There is a good bit of discussion going on in the thread I started about the Goodyear F1's; I ran the Nitto DR's on the rear on my 2010 and had no issues whatsover and after hearing everyone's opinions about the F1's I am going to pass on them.

Thanks Greg I will go read the thread. I was told by a friend Friday that he had the F1s but changed to Contientals.

No sway in the front here, but I have a stb which helps alot when the sway is gone. Got a square tire setup again with 285's in the front and love it car handles great.

Forgive my ignorance, how does a STB help when you remove the swaybar?

The swaybar is a torsion spring, the STB is a stiffener device, one with dubious credibility doing just that. At best it reduces cowl shake and can only force the strut tower tops to move in the same direction. About the only place it would have any stiffening effect is during braking when the forces on both strut towers try to collapse the towers in. A STB will not replace or enhance front end stability in a corner enough to justify the jump in weight (unless you count the weight reduction for your wallet) when compared to having a proper swaybar attached up front.

We are having a very in depth discussion on STB's in the Corner Carving section which would be a good read for those who are interested.
