I've been gathering parts for several months now and although my pistons have been on back order from Manley since early April, they're supposedly coming any day now. I have most everything else so I listed my Procharger P-1SC-1 for sale the other day (upgrading to F1-A), expecting it to take awhile to sell, but low and behold it sold almost immediately! So I had to remove it from my car to ship to it's new owner, leaving my car no longer drivable. In my mind this was a good excuse to go ahead and officially begin my build! So here we go...

    Highlights of build:
    shortblock:
    302 forged stroker
    Kellogg 3.750 crank
    Manley H beam 5.850 rods
Manley 14cc coated pistons w/plasma moly rings
    GT500 pump w/TSS billet gears
    ARP studs & fasteners throughout
    TF adjustable crank gears
    Heads:
custom grind L&M Engines cams w/lockouts
    Pac 1533 springs
    FRPP timing set
    FRPP lash adjusters & followers
I'll be doing some minor porting work to the heads and un-shrouding the valves while I have them out. Then when I'm done I'll bring them to the shop for a nice valve job and deck .001 off the bottom.
    power adder:
    Procharger F1-A, 20lbs +/-
    Race bypass valve upgrade

    sold centri blower

    just about ready to pull
    [IMG]
ran into a little hiccup, I didn't realize I had to pull the nose clip off to get the hoist close enough to reach!
Still not enough clearance! Have to pull the intercooler too Urghhh!
    Okay this will work!
    Got it! Coors light time!
lots of room to work now!
I took lots of pics during the tear down in case I need them later, which I'm sure I will!

NSR cams for sale, coming soon the the classified section! They're being replaced with custom L&M Engines grinds.

    stock RTA coming out!

Next I'll be de-burring the block, cleaning up the oil passages, etc. Then soon as the camel gets here with my pistons it'll be time for the machine shop.

I must say pulling these motors is waaaay more work than the old Fox body 5.0's, holy cow! I was expecting to be a little worse but man that pretty much sucked all around! I'm sure it'll suck even worse going back in but I'm not gonna think about that right now :)

Just curious, what was so difficult about pulling it & why didn't you pull it out with the headers on?

    Thanks!

Time consuming, mostly because of the headers, I didn't know there was room to pull the motor with them still attached! Maybe I'll try to attach em' when the motor goes back in.

    Thanks, Yea, me too!

Made a little more progress today, the block is de-burred and oil passages cleaned up. Also ported one cylinder and un-shrouded the valves in it. Came out pretty decent I think...I want to open up around the spark plug a bit more but there doesn't seem to be much to work with there so I'm probably just gonna leave it alone, I don't want to break through!

Best of luck brother! I plan on going crazy with my engine when I get stateside! Definitely put the headers back on before you put the engine back in. It might be a little tight, but it can be done.

I will try that for sure, those headers were a HUGE PITA especially since they had the OEM studs!

    Thanks!

I made a little more progress today, but this annoying thing keeps getting in the way, its called work! anyway, I managed to get another cylinder done. I forgot how long it takes to do this type of work, it's only been about 10 years since I did it!

Also talked to the machine shop today who was going to do my block and turns out they loaned out their 4.6 torque plates and never got them back....my luck! So a few calls later I ended up finding what I think is an even a better shop. They'll probably be a bit more expensive but that's okay with me since I'll have peace of mind knowing its done right. HRE builds boat racing engines, twin turbo big blocks, etc. and they were also super knowledgeable about my 4.6 so it will all work out. Everything happens for a reason~

I finished the Right head today! Here's a few pics. If all goes well I'll finish the Left side and cc them both this weekend. Then off to the machine shop for a nice valve job and decking. Still waiting on those darn pistons! It's been 2+ months! Supposedly they shipped today, so maybe they'll show up Monday. My cams, springs and lockout's should arrive sometime next week too. The machine shop has about a 2 week backlog, so if all goes well I should have everything ready to assemble early in July. Although I'll be on vacation then so IDK~!

Finally finished the porting work today! Overall I'm pleased how everything came out. Ended up doing a bit more than I originally planned (no surprise there lol!) on the exhaust ports, did some real port work really opened them up quite a bit throughout the short turn and through the exit, while I just did more or less clean up work removing bumps and casting lines, etc. and finally polished out the intakes. My new PAC 1533 springs should come in early next week along with the 2 month back ordered pistons then I can finally drop everything off at the machine shop.

Your engine/trans look very clean to me, did you clean them before pics?

Edit: so is your engine bay too.
    Very clean car man!

Thanks, but no I didn't do any special cleaning, that's how everything was to start with. This car is not my DD, it usually sits in my garage under a cover so not much opportunity to get dirty, lol. Edit: My tranny is new, just installed in February so it's definitely super clean still.

IDK of anyone local with a flow bench. I'll ask HRE when I drop everything off to them, hopefully sometime this week. They build some pretty serious offshore race boat engines, I bet they either have a flow bench or if not know of someone that does. If & when I get them flowed I'll definitely post the results.

I couldn't help myself, I just had to place one next to an old piston out of my 91' Fox body, lol!

You can actually fit the 3v piston inside the skirt of the old 302/Windsor piston! In any case, I'll be calling HRE tomorrow to schedule the machine and balancing work!

Those are awfully beautiful! I don't think they'll work, but I have something they will work in :).

All jokes aside, back orders do suck but their all worth it. Did you get rings, etc to go with it or do you have to get those yet?
