Damn Tanner. This thread is awesome. I'd really like to do this mod because I want a reliable automatic transmission that I can DD and the 5R isn't going to hold up for me.

Thanks! That was exactly why I did it. Originally, I was going to use a 5R with a PTS controller but I quickly scrapped that idea in favor of the 4R.

Tanner, You could make a living installing those here in NJ. Damn , Think about it perfect your "kit" sell it with the detailed instructions and any guy who has burned out two clutch's would be all over it.
Fantastic write up very detailed and easy to understand.

That's what got me, I was tired of fooling with the clutches, slaves and related crap. As far as some type of business, I always worry that would take the fun out of it. Though I may change my mind once this car is completed in the spring and we have another to work on.

I may have missed it, but did you have to make any changes to the master cylinder for the brakes?

I will provide the cervezas.
If you were closer, the beer wouldn't have to be wrapped in as many hundred dollar beer koozies. Though I could give you a shipping address for the car. Lol!

No changes at all, mechanically. You will need to pay attention to the clutch pedal wiring. My upper clutch pedal sensor is still disconnected (= no cruse control) and needs to be fixed. If I get a chance, after we get back in town, I will provide
some additional information on the wiring in that area.

Do you have your cruise control working yet? When I did mine I used a tie wrap to keep the clutch sensor depressed & my cruise still did not work. I have recently removed the sensor & connected the 2 wires but I have not tried the cruise since then.

No, I haven't but you have just given me another reason to do so. I will fix it after work and reply back.

good deal, its gonna be great when its all done and said. props!
The car is done and I have put over 1000 miles on it so far. I just don't have the clutch switch (depressed) hooked up, so the cruse control doesn't work. Other than that, everything is tip top.

That's a bad ass setup Tanner. Not big on autos but definitely very nice.

Damn nice thread. I've wanted to do this for a while and you may have just convinced me to go ahead and start getting the parts ready. I want transbrake so bad and just can't wait anymore for someone to get one working on the 5R55S
thanks for all the great info and yes a business will take the fun out of it especially if you have reservations now...trust me.

Thanks, I appreciate that! Most people, like myself, go to an automatic out of simple necessity. Honestly, I would rather focus only on steering a built and turbo'd car, than steering and shifting it as well.

Cool deal, glad it helped! Since you are N/A, you will definately need to carefully select your gearing and stall speed to try and equal the mechanical advantage offered by the ratios in your 5R.

You are welcome! I think it is something that I may venture into at my leasure. I'm getting quite a bit of external pressure from a few people to pull the trigger, not to mention the internal conflict in knowing that there is nothing more I'd rather do in my spare time. We'll see.
