No sealants required - just do them up suitably snug and they're good.

Yeah that's kindof a joke ... since it's an 8MM allen wrench and there isn't room to get anything bigger between the bolt and the body. I used the german torque wrench, "gootentight."

5/16" may fit, but they are 8mm for sure. And yeah, it's 2.7 quarts, take a cup out and that will leave you with 2.75, what sticks to the bottles and tubing will make it damn close to 2.70.

I'm new to the MT82. My 12 has about 400 miles on it and seems to shift fine (although the shifter is sloppy). So according to what I'm reading here I should go ahead and change the fluid to a full synthetic?

I got my car in the winter of 2010 and had no problems with it being notchey. That didn't happen till the fall of 2011 when the temperature started to drop again. There were less than 2000 miles on the car then. If it were my car I would switch it out now and save the factory fluid in a jug. It's no telling if Ford will try to void the warranty over MTG.

I couldn't get anything other than a regular 90-degree allen key in there because there isn't enough clearance from the side of the gearbox to the tunnel. You'll get a sense of how tight is "tight" when you undo it the first time. I just did mine up that tight again by feel and it's been fine. I actually had my drain and fill plugs out about five times doing testing and there's no risk of leaks - if they're snug they're good.

Actually, your transmission came from Ford with a full synthetic gear oil in it, and a good one at that. However, it's a good idea to change the oil at around 1,000 miles or so, so at that point you can stay with Motorcraft fluid or switch to something else. A fluid change will get rid of any metallic crud left over from the break-in process. I've read a lot of threads on the forums about bearing failures in the MT82, and debris inside the box is often a contributing factor if not the major cause.

It all depends on weather you will be running it in. I’m in WI, hot summers but cold as shit winters. I’ve had good results with the upgraded stock stuff (QS). In the winter I just double clutch the first 5 minutes, once it’s warm it’s smooth.

I have to disagree 100% with that statement. The junk synthetic QS fluid is based on a cheap base 2 stock, or something like that. I would use the word "synthetic" losely when Fords transmission fluid is brought into a conversation.

I'm sure Beast will be in here to clarify what I just said....

Also, how could ford void a warranty if you are using MTG and had a factory fill with the QS fluid? They are the same exact oil weight. Besides your owners manual states to only change fluids that meet or exceed fords fluid. Amsoil MTG clearly meets and EXCEEDS fords stock fill.

I had about 750 miles on my car when I switched out tranny fluid. The stock QS crap would cause a grind and complete lock out. I believe I only had my tranny grind twice. I changed out my fluid before this became a common occurance, so no damage done.

Read my first post for my reviews. Only thing that has changed is the MTG is awesome since it has warmed up here.
