Just Ordered Royal Purple HPS+ 5w30, Is This Bad? Should I Have Ordered 5w20?

Brenspeed and JDM says it makes no difference. However my local shop says that since where i live in SC that its going to be 80-100 all summer, that 5w30 is better.

I am supercharged and making 500rwhp. Should i just order the 5w20 and send back the 5w30?

I also hate the API oil as they used to have zinc in the oil and then went API standard. The HPS+ oil is basically what royal purple oil was last year and beyond.

I change my oil every 3500 miles, and i use either motorcraft or wix filters because they have silicone anti drain back valves for the prevention of dry starts. If using any other, the car will have a slight tick for 4 seconds after starting.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Those who have, have not reported good results. No bash at RP, just not the best fit for this particular transmission apparently.

I've only seen two reviews on the RP Syncomax with the M-82, and both of those reviews were glowing.

I'm not a RP fanboy, just saying what I read. Where did you see the bad reviews?

Where did you see those good reviews? Were they posted by real people on public forums, or by reviewers that accept advertising revenue? I've seen quite a few people speak out against RP in the MT82 on this and other Mustang forums. There is another thread that was really long where UnleashedBeast explained exactly why the RP fluids were not a good match using actual facts btw, not opinions.

Thanks guys! Is the HPS+ with zinc a way to make more money? Or does it really help longevity?

I got them for $8.50 a quart

well "opinions" is what we're talking here, though some obviously more knowledgeable than others. I read good things about RP on SVTPerformance. Was it credible? Dunno, but all internet posts should be taken with a grain of salt, right?

Maybe I'll try Syncromax and report back. I've really been kicking around which to try - all seem to have goods and bads, and I have a hard time thinking RP is will be much different than BG, MTL, etc.

P.S. I'm an Unleashedbeast fan and find him credible. But, it did make me laugh that you cited an Amsoil guy in the same paragraph that you implied good reviews of RP might be from those standing to gain from RP sales.

It doesn't surprise me that some folks found that it works for them. I'm glad it does, actually. It's a good product.

Back when I was looking, I only found a couple of Synchromax reviews and both were pretty ho-hum. That doesn't mean it doesn't actually work, it just means it didn't meet the testers' expectations.

I just put in the last quart of 5w30 HPS, I am like maybe 1oz from where I like it, need to top off with 1 oz. instead of buying another HPS quart and having to wait 3 days to get here can I just top off with royal purple API regular full synthetic oil as long as its 5w30?? Since its only an ounce or 2?

The recomendationg for 5w-20 was made only to get access to the federal bonuses with the CAFE standards, fuel consumption standards, etc. The higher the mpg across the fleet means a bigger %. Ford only warranties the block for 36,000k miles and it doesn't cover a power adder. The slight increased wear and tear occurs either after the warranty expired or when the warranty was already expired because of the power adder lol. The minimal savings in mpg really show up when you multiply the savings fleet wise...

RIP - You will be missed

For that small of an amout it isn't going to make any difference what viscosity oil you put in there, whether you even add it in at all. 2 oz out of about 200 = negligible.

A guy I know from another forum who was somewhat closer to the development of these engines absolutely will not use 5W20.

Saleen recommends 5 w30 on their S/C cars too, both Brenspeed and JDM are Saleen authorized dealers.

Just curious but why even bother trying RP when both Amsoil MTG/MTF and Redline MTL have great reviews in the MT82 by tons of users?

I understand that thought. But none of them seem perfect for all weather conditions, so I'll give this one a shot and see how it works. "Take one for the team," if you will :thumb2:

Besides, I have no real issues -- perhaps a little 3rd gear crunchiness when really cold. So, I don't mind trying a couple different things to get the best shifting out of her.

I'm hoping to get the fluid in tomorrow night, but might not have time. Will definitely report back so that it's part of this thread.
