WTF is my 525 rwhp on mustang dyno?
Well.. I know you all have been waiting for this saga to continue and its going together like a Tom Clancy novel!..
First off I have to give props to Brad @
http://dynotuning.com/computer_tuning.htm
He was referred to me by Blwn05 since we both were trying to find a decent tuner in our area. HE took the time to talk and enplaned things to me even though I cant retain much more then my name. Also, came to the the shop on his day off just to wrestle with my POS.
When he agreed to meet me on Saturday I on Friday :
1

installed a set of HTO's that a friend only used for 100 miles. I gapped them (with vortech tool) to .032
2

I changed Procharger oil (spilled the shit all over my new driveway at my new house!!
ONE thing to note: When I pulled out the old spark plugs (only 5K on them) I noticed that they were gapped smaller then the .032. Adam at ST gaped it and it looks like maybe it was at .028
On Sat morning I headed out for my 2 hour drive to hopefully find someone that knows what their doing. When I started the car it stumbled in starting for a split second like it was going to not fire up like last time. It did start and when it was at idle warming up I could hear it back fire/ mis fire even at idle. (this was new). On my drive the car was worse then before. I could only assume its because the bigger gap on the plugs. As I got lost because of my crappy new nav from Sanyo( that cant be updated AT all) I took a wrong exit and almost took out a F@cken 30lbs TURKEY in the middle of the road!. (Whats up with birds and my car?!?!).
When I got to the shop Brad tried to check the old tune a little. I'm still a little fuzzy about this part. I tried to explain the "Trick" but without knowing exactly it was like finding a needle in a hay stack. Instead of wasting time he tried to work on getting the thing to run right again. He also heard the miss-fires and troubleshot it to a bad plug (they were free ht0 from a friend). The porcelain? was cracked inside. After that he started from scratch and re-did the tune.
Here is the Last tune with Ravi:
Here is the Same car with the before and after Tune:
As you can see the car was running super pig rich and some how with only changing the plugs I lost 100 rwhp? While tuning we ran into another issue.. if you look on the tune dyno graph you will see something funky happening at 4.5K The tuner believes it might be blow out from the plugs. There were tons of fuel/air and timing to play with, but adding more of that didnt help, only made it wiggle on the dyno more. He ended the timing to 12-13 deg until we can figure out whats up. Centris are not suppose to plateau at 4.5K. Its hard to tell what power level I'm really suppose to be at. If we can figure this out I should be at or around 500rwhp on the dyno jet.. I hope. With 12-13 pound pulley (3.40) and 9.3:1 comp and plenty of fuel and air I'm not sure.. (any know have a guess?).
Anyway, is .032 to big? I thought that was the best for SC cars? Can and should I got to .028 or .030? Does that lessen the plug or make the cylinder burn hotter? Could there be an issue with the stock coils? When we found out one of the plugs was bad I had to replace it with a stock one from ford. We gapped that one, but could one hotter plug cause this at 4.5K? Brad told me the MAf and alt were all good.
Another note: I'm getting a p0151a code only at start up not while driving. After worrying and thinking about it I remember it was something I got from the other tuner and he told me the reason behind it... but I forgot. Something about the car needing to go through 2 cycles? and I think he just shut that O2 sensor off ... OHHHHH!!!! I think its because of the CMRC deletes!! HaH!! I just remembered now..
As of the ride home even with 467hp the car kicks hard. There is some fine tuning needed but I got what I came for... (a car that runs good again)
I will bring the car back to him later after more testing/tweeking. For now I will test the cold start issues for a little. and go from there.. Sorry for the long post and as always and help IS very appreciated...... even smart ass comments(but better have good info

)
