Thinking about trading my 2012 5.0 with 30k miles for a 2008 Shelby 500 with 37k miles. Ill break even on trade in and the car will cost me an extra 5k. Trying to justify the trade because i have wanted one since they came out.

Just looking for opinions on any one who has traded from either a 5.0 to 500 or vise versa.

if you really want one, go do it. it doesn't matter what we think.

I've got a GT500 in my family and driving it(577whp) back to back with my 5.0 its like night and day. my 5.0 feels smaller and more nimble, and nearly as quick at my current power level.

its up to you as far as what you want from a car. do you want cool noises and instant torque? or so you want a more balanced NA screamer like the 5.0? both are great cars. its up to you as a driver.

the GT500 is like a bruiser, its like peyton manning. he stays in the pocket and picks the defense apart putting up huge numbers. the 5.0 is like todays read option QB. it won't put up the numbers like manning but it is just as likely to pick apart a defense. whats your game plan?

just waiting for the panthers to take care of the whiners tomorrow. :naughty1:

on a side note, one of the "pros" in the GT500 side of the idea is resale. for some odd reason(probably the S550) coyote resales have taken a bigger hit than i think even the 3v did when the coyote was introduced.

both have their cons. everyone hates on the MT82, but is soon to forget the TR6060 1-2 issues, and clutch issues.

i was in the same boat as you when i was selling my 3v…get a GT500 or a 5.0. in the end i just had to take a hard look at what i wanted out of the car. at 430ish whp I've got too much power for street tires, and too much to really enjoy on the street. it only gets worse with GT500. while driving my uncles it was getting loose in 4th on the highway.

its a tough choice, and thats and understatement.

yeah figure i can always boost the 5.0 with a nice roush charger to get the whine and still be able to carve corners.

I like it, the GT500 is a window into history, CArroll Shelby will never "approve" another mustang again.

For me it would be the t500 I don't see them on the street a lot at all. And it's my favorite mustang body design.(you know muscley) And it's a big daddy gt500!

Several differences on what do you want....

-If you are big on interior, after the "new" car wears off, the 08 interior is not as nice as the stock 2010+.

-If gas matters stick with the 5.0L
-If your drive it everyday and fuel doesn't matter much then the GT500 is much better because of the low end torque. I think driving them everyday the GT500 would be more fun then the 5.0L as the 5.0 needs to get to 4K RPMs before its greatness comes out IMO.

 I vote a big shinny Whipple on the 5.0.

You have to do what you really feel though. Its your dream, not ours.
