Tuning a 07 GT

I got my headers on and now realize why my car ran as good as it did without a tune. Even though it has CAI, ported throttle body, cmcv plate deletes, cams and catless exhaust. None of it really mattered because the pipes off manifolds were quite restricted. Now it isn't running very good. What does a tune do? Just add fuel and timing? Can I do that with my sct x4? Why doesn't the tune keep correct ratio,s? A carb is pretty simple and it accepts mods easily. I guess I can start adding fuel and see what happens. Been trying to buy a tune for headers and cams but everyone is too busy. Thanks.

Did you not originally get a tune for the intake, cams etc.?

Tunes, in essence, affect the fueling and timing but there's a whole depth of stuff you can get in and tinker with.

A carb accepts mods easier because it's mechanical, once you have electronics trying to manage or monitor unknown mechanical variables you have issues.

Car had cams and JLT cai when I got it and it didn't have a tune. I did deletes, better exhaust from x pipe back and ported TB. My tuner had cai, delete plates and TB. Plus octane. I added everything it had and it didn't help. I will try adding fuel tomorrow. I need to data log to get my afr,s but don't know how. Im thinking everything is increasing airflow and I guess ecu can't keep up on fuel.

If you had CMDPs and cams (and a CAI with a larger MAF housing), I severely doubt your car didn’t have a tune. It wouldn’t idle and would have a CEL. What makes you think it wasn’t tuned?

Your tune is off now most likely due to the O2 sensor delay being off with the O2s being physically farther downstream, causing AFR issues, on top of additional AFR issues from scavenging from the headers.

There is a LOT that goes into tuning modern EFI, longer than you can list out here. If you want to learn tuning yourself, get SCT Advantage Pro and take a class…..or get a tune from a reputable tuner. I have had good success from Lito and JDM engineering.

Hey Brother Stockish, The tuner said it was stock "no tune found". I called SCT. No answer. Same with AM and left a message for a return call, still waiting. LMR same. I know Lito is the guy but I don't want to spend $400 and take a week or two to get ahold of him only to do same thing every time I do something to my car in future. My car is very basic, no boost, just a couple na add on mods. Stock fuel system, heads, pistons and short block.

You need a custom tune for your mods. I believe Lito charges $200 for an email tune and requires you to log live data, save the files, and email them back to him so he can perform revisions. He'll usually have the tune fully optimised by the 3rd revision. AFAIK he doesn't charge extra for the revisions.

Tuning will involve remapping fuel/ignition timing curves at various rpm and load conditions, and may also require modifying cam timing curves from the factory settings.

Lito is very good for bolt on cammed cars, and very affordable for what you get (datalogging and revisions), especially if you already have an SCT device.

I sent Manuel a email, now waiting on reply. How is payment made? Exhaust is done. Muffler man in Alma mi. Im hard to please but very happy with them. May need a h pipe to restore sound but it won't be soon. I got a years insurance thru Hagerty. Happy with that too

Manuel responded and it's $250 initially, then less for revisions. What I'm wondering bout is windows on lap top. Im not a tech guy but I thought windows was obsolete. Don't think we (wife)have it.

Try to see if you can borrow a Windows laptop from someone. Worst case scenario is you buy a back to school cheap one. It’s a small program so you don’t need a lot of power. A USB port and the ability to email is all you need.
You can find a refurbished computer at a computer repair shop for cheap also.

You will need Windows 11+, SCT Device Updater (free) to program the tune files to the SCT device and SCT LiveLink (free) to datalog.

Windows 10 is what I am running but 11 is available. Not sure which older systems are not supported?

Call SCT and ask them what are the system requirements.

Ya, I don’t know how Windows could be obsolete. Only a couple months ago I purchased a new HP laptop that came with Windows 11.
SCTs Device Updater and LiveLink both loaded into it without the slightest problem. I still have a Windows 10 Laptop that has done many datalogs and transferred several tunes from email to X4 using the updater program.

SCT Flash says you can use Windows Vista through Windows 10. I read a caution about trying to to use the Advantage lll software with Windows 11.

Do you have a true wide band sensor? You will need one.
