Turbo Vaccum Line Gurus... Inside please

Just trying to get a heads up prior to the install on my car... I have a hp performance turbo kit. Running an hallmark mbc, turbosmart wga, autometer boost gauge, and tial bov. Any suggestions on the vaccum line routing? I have the one port on the compressor housing...

Well which vacuum are you taking about? Gauge routing? If so I t'd into the vacuum line running beside the driver side fuel rail. I tapped the lower return on the intake and installed a barb to run to the bov on the top of the intercooler. I can provide pics when I get home.

yes shoot me some pics of your set up...

i thought the fuel sensor really doesn't like when you tap into it for any vaccum source?...

just want to see where you are running lines to the other vaccum/boost needed items...

Nice block James.

Mine is basically the same.
I used a 1/4-28 NPT to tap the intake for the signal for my BOV.
The Wastegate signal comes off the top of the intercooler.

Not true at all. Has no effect.


The boost gauge and bov need to read intake manifold pressure/vac to operate/read correctly. The best source is the vac hose going to the fuel rail sensor as mentioned.

To ensure proper wastegate function and accurate/responsive boost controller operation, you want to run them right off the turbo discharge, ie tap the turbo compressor housing(most turbos come with this provision already).

I have no experience with that manual boost controller. If it has additional settings besides wg duty cycle(which achieves target boost) then maybe. I know the better electronic boost controller have additional settings for sensitivity and minimum gate pressure(which i dont think manual controllers have) which you can play with to get a slight increase in spool and an increase in low end torque production.

well i have two fitting coming off the mbc (in and out) and two fitting coming off the wga (assuming in and out)... where do these run the best?

There are many ways to setup your bosot controller to achieve different results. ie, low boost/high boost/wide range of boost level. The one you bought should come with what it reccomends.

For reference here is a method.

Due to not having a mbc or ebc i am only using the barb off the middle of the wastegate, not the one on the cap. I'm not exactly sure what that one is for. Listen to Jeremy he knows his stuff!

Yup thats the correct setup for no boost controller.
The other port is for use with a boost controller/solenoid.

There ya have it, yup thats what i figured.

The manual boost controller with set spring opens the wastgate slower/more gradually until traget boost is reached, ie if target boost is set at 10psi it will start opening at 5-6psi.

I have the eboost2 e-bc and by using the top port with the solenoid i can set the gate pressure higher( the gate stays completely closed until this level).

So the gate pressure is set at 9psi(gate does not open at all until this level) and then it opens quickly to maintain target boost (12psi).

On my 16psi setting i have the the gate pressure set to 14psi :).

By keeping the wg fully closed longer and opening faster it will help spool/torque production down low. The one draw back is if you have gate pressure set to high (to close to target boost) you will get a boost spike before the wastegate can fully open.

These are all good reasons on why to run the wg right off the turbo compressor discharge. To make it more responsive/accurate.

You will love it, simple to use and works great. Lots of features and settings to play with as well. :)

You can use just the side port on the W/G with an ebc, you only need to use the top port if you are trying to get max boost from the setup. If you have say a 6psi spring in the W/G and want to make 15 psi total then you would have to use the top port to achieve this or go to a higher spring in the W/G. I am setting up my EBoost2 with dual solenoids and just using the side port on the W/G's initially. I have 10# springs in the W/G's and plan on less than 20# max so the single side port should work fine. If it doesn't I will got to both ports.
