How many has made the switch up to the new 5.0 from the 4.6 models. Not just stock type cars, but boosted built cars. Been thinking about making the switch but unsure if it is worth it. Would you do it again also? Little back ground on my 07. It is a full bolt on suspension car with k member,upper,lowers,d/a struts, shocks, drive shaft, fully built 8.8 with locker, axles, cover, studded. Full Kooks header/exhaust,frpp cams,intake,p1c1 procharged, fuel system, line lock, rst clutch, mgw shifter and alot more, such as braided brake lines, big brakes and the list keeps going.

Question is i have a f1 procharger sitting in the garage. Goal is 800 hp. Now do i build the 4.6 or start from scratch and build a 5.0 14 car. I do have a frpp intake manifold, cnc heads and other goodies sitting here. Really just need a short block so i can make good power. But if i go to a 14 5.0 i know i can use some things from my car. Its not a daily, but i do drive the shit out of it. I do like the looks of the 13-14 cars but just not sure if it would be worth it building a whole new car to say.

For the ones that have done the switch would you build again or wish you kept your old car?

Honestly if your car is paid off and you aren't trying to depend on the vehicle as a daily driver, I would say to keep what you have and just build it to go.

You'll really want to build a motor regardless if wanting to be in the 800 range with either car.

Thats the thing. If i do a 5.0 14 car i will have to build the motor also as it will be procharged. Non built 5.0 i think safe is what 550-600 from the norm as i have seen.

Myself, considering it's not a DD, it's paid off, you could never get half of what you have in it if you sold it, the power potential is almost as great as a new Coyote, if you get a new 5.0 you will still have to build it, then building you current ride seems like a no brainer.

If I was going to build something today, I would get a new aluminum 5.8L block and start from there. You can go with the 4V heads and a new GT500, or stand alone computer system, or you can just keep your 3v heads and have them ported, it all depends on what power level you are looking for. I think this setup would be better, in the long run, then trying to put a new Coyote in your car.

It all depends on how much $$$ you want to dump in it.

Sure, I'd personally love the most power potential, but I'm not in a position to buy a 2013 GT500 or even a $8K engine to drop into my 3V. Even buying a 2011 GT with a 5.0 is a great option, but by my math I'd be dropping an extra $10k for a car that is 6 years newer and with the 5.0, but it 6 years it would be worth $10k less due to depreciation. Make sense?

My opinion, pay off the 3V and use that $10K or less to build up the 3V, add a blower, upgrade the suspension, brakes, exhaust, etc and enjoy on helluva fast car!!!

My goals beyond my current mods, get a centri blower and go with a forged 302 stroker setup. That will give me around 500-550 at the flywheel and a great street machine!

Hope that helps.

Can you actually put a 5.0 coyote / aluminator eng into a 05-10 car ??
I thought Lito was the only one that had done it..with great difficulties.

The wiring harness /ecu is completely different. The aluminator is not much more than the coyote...same eng but with forged rod /crank /pistons /heavy duty water + oil pump etc, etc.

Yes you can. Ford sell a kit to do so. You won't have tcs though.

This is news to me. I will try and dig up the info. IF you have a link to the eng swap on fords site, that would be much appreciated.

I usually shut the traction control off. It just fries the rear brakes.
On my 2010, it comes with ABS.... ESC ( electronic stabilty control)..and also TCS.

ABS is always on. TCS can be on or off.
ESC can be on , or in sport mode..or completely off.

My 2010 is an auto..with the damned 5r55 auto tranny. I assume with the coyote /aluminator installed that either the 6 speed 6r80 or the MT-82 can be installed ? (or a T-56)

This.

Its about $ and want you like. Its always cheaper to make an older car fast, always been that way regardless of platform.

That's how car companies stay in business, coming out with that new new and getting you back into a car note. This time more expensive car as well. mods cost more etc etc.

My 07 is here to stay. Ford nailed the retro design for 05-09, I still check out my car every time I walk up to it.

I'd say build what you got, but I'm partial to the 05 body style.

I'm ready to see the new FRPP 5.3 stroker. Think it would be a good option.

While true, you never really get your money back in mods either way. This hobby is too expensive!

I loved my 09, I thought it was more retro looking than the '10-'14, and smaller looking. I own a '14 now, race red with the appearance package, black mirror caps, black spoiler, and 19" appearance package wheels. I spend more time staring at this car than I ever did my '09, and aside from power, the interior, and everything else about the car seems leaps and bounds above what the 09 was. The '10-'12's I cannot stand, with all the gray plastic all over them. Bleh.

Anyway, if your car is paid for, I would keep modding it, build it to be what you want. If you would only be upgrading for the motor, it's not worth it. You can build a bad ass short block, and still be way cheaper in, than buying a 5.0. 700hp is 700hp...be it a 3v, or a 5.0. Although...it seems a 5.0 at 700hp seems to be a faster car over all than a 700hp 3v. Not sure if it's the area under the curve, how the trans etc is geared.
