If you like the 13/14 body style just buy a GT500. It's just a matter of $$$$.

Seriously, I think one huge factor is budget (what can you afford), followed by what style you like better (05/09, 10, 11/12, 13/14) and what your goals are (daily driver, street machine, 1/4 mile, or race track).

I don't have time to race (3 kids). So street machine is my thing.
I could have 1,000 hp (cool song by Godsmack) but I'd never get to use it. It would just be bragging rights for me.
I could afford more car but would prefer mine paid off and customized.
I'd also love the idea of a 302 stroker Kit (maybe $3k installed) and a blower (maybe $5k-$6k installed).

I think that car is more interesting than a tuned 5.0 with a CAI for the same $$$. The coyote maybe be faster but I'd be interested in the custom 3V.

Just my rationale based on my situation and style.

How many has made the switch up to the new 5.0 from the 4.6 models. Not just stock type cars, but boosted built cars. Been thinking about making the switch but unsure if it is worth it. Would you do it again also? Little back ground on my 07. It is a full bolt on suspension car with k member,upper,lowers,d/a struts, shocks, drive shaft, fully built 8.8 with locker, axles, cover, studded. Full Kooks header/exhaust,frpp cams,intake,p1c1 procharged, fuel system, line lock, rst clutch, mgw shifter and alot more, such as braided brake lines, big brakes and the list keeps going.

Question is i have a f1 procharger sitting in the garage. Goal is 800 hp. Now do i build the 4.6 or start from scratch and build a 5.0 14 car. I do have a frpp intake manifold, cnc heads and other goodies sitting here. Really just need a short block so i can make good power. But if i go to a 14 5.0 i know i can use some things from my car. Its not a daily, but i do drive the shit out of it. I do like the looks of the 13-14 cars but just not sure if it would be worth it building a whole new car to say.

For the ones that have done the switch would you build again or wish you kept your old car?

I was just talking about this with my partner last night. We both had/have boosted 3v cars and we both have Yotes, his is boosted. I drive his boosted car all the time.

In NA form hands down the Yote is the winner. It's a screamer. I love that motor.

But things aren't the same with boost. At the end of the day boost is boost. A 5.0 will not really make any more power than a 4.6 if they are the same compression ratio (CR). All of that head flow/cams/etc go right out the window and it comes down to what you are blowing into the motor. The FI Yotes put big numbers up because of the compression. But you run out of octane at a lower boost level. So if the blower is sized correctly the extra compression doesn't do you any good. You simply turn up the boost on the 3v.

Here are what I see as the two downsides (or maybe it's three) to a boosted Yote over a 3v:

-The Yote block will not take the same power that a 3v will. That is a fact. If you start playing with 800+ the Yote block gets a little "thin". The 4.6 will hang on to way over 1000.

-The Yote has a high CR. To prevent detonation the tuners "hang" the valves open through the midrange to blow off boost. This makes them "flat" through the midrange. This is why you see the Yotes put up great HP numbers, but the TQ is low. There is a big spread between peak HP and peak TQ. A 3v will make almost as much TQ as it does HP until you start playing with stupid big numbers and stupid big cams. I have seen all sorts of 3v's make something like 650hp/600tq. Where a Yote will make 650hp/500tq. IMO this "flatness" of the Yote through the midrange takes some of the fun out of driving it on the street. On the track it won't matter, you simply keep the RPM's up. But on the street you are rolling in the power much lower in the RPM's and much more often.

I like driving blown 3v cars on the street more than blown Yotes (power being equal). When I hop out of a 3v into a Yote I always think "Where did the fucking TQ go?" or "Is something wrong?". Then I remember it's a characteristic of the Yote.

I also think the 05-09 is the best looking S197.

You already have all the work done to your 3v.

It's paid for.

If your goal is to make 800hp what will you gain from going with the Yote? I suggest it's nothing. You still have to put a blower on, you still need to do the same level of supporting mods.

This is awesome feedback! I'd drop a DoB setup on it, or a centri blower if you have aggressive gearing.

Well had a unexpected call from a buddy this morning that owns a dealer and you ever wish you wouldn't of answered the phone sometimes. Couldn't turn it down but he got a 2013 GHG 5.0 auto car in on trade. Walked out the door with 20,500 in it. Just couldn't turn it down. Figure demod my 07 and use what i can as far as suspension and sell the rest for the 5.0 build up. His first words were you are not gona like me. He knew i was trying to decide what to do with mine or go to a 5.0 car.

I went from an 07 to a 12 recently and would definitely do it again. I am making the same power of a 3v with a blower on the cars limits just with full exhaust and intake on my 5.0...

That's a lot of TQ for an intake and exhaust.:Big Laugh:

Congrats! I guess you decided what direction to go! LOL. I can't say I won't trade in my '05 if I find something different I fall in love with, but I'm still thinking Paxton/Vortech and 302 stroker.

So, what does "walked out the door with 20,500" mean? Was that the buying price, the amount financed or the mileage on the 2013?

Out the door price was 20,500 bucks. Not financed. That was what he was giving them for the car on trade in so he just let me pay him for it. I was almost dead set on just keeping my 07 and ordering a short block this week for it. But i just couldn't pass up the deal. Another good thing is it is a automatic where the 07 was a stick car. I have to have knee surgery at the end of the year and my luck i would of had problems mashing the clutch in. I will say i like it alot better than my 07. It all stock so its kinda puny to most but that will change shortly.

I paid $23k for my '14 base 5.0, m6 car. It had the appearance package, and hid's (which I believe are standard on '13-14's??) With 15k miles bone stock. Ripped the ugly ass louvers off the rear side windows, and threw down 5% all the way around it, LOVE IT. I didn't car about all the apps, and tech packages, brembos etc, because the base gives me a clean slate to built on with stereo, brake upgrades, etc. I still see '08-'09 3v cars in my area for sale for $15-16k, which kinda blows my mind, as for a couple grand more..you can buy a car with so much more to give. My '09 was a premium, with all the IUP, and Shaker stereo crap too, and my '14 gives me a much bigger woody. Congrats on the upgrade!

Damn good deal. We have a 14 base 6MT with appearance package on the lot at work for 28,900 with 8K on it. Haha which is so dumb and way over priced. The sales managers constantly over pay for trades. That car will never sell at that price. Plus it has the recall and company policy is to not sell it till then recall is done. Parts aren't available to order till mid/end of this month. So in the meantime it will age and get discounted till they either lose money on it or goes to wholesale...

That explains why I've seen a recent drop in inventory in the area. None of the dealers have parts for the airbag recalls.

It's ok. My 05 isn't worth enough in trade to make a 13/14 affordable for me as a toy. It's cheaper to install a Paxton blower.
