I put on a BBK TB and picked up one whole horsepower, which could have easily been run to run variance. $500 could be better spent elsewhere, since it also popped codes. But that was back when they used metal gears instead of the stock/plastic ones.

hahahahah oh man....thats ridiculous, yeah the guys at brenspeed said dont put it on, as my hood wouldnt clear, but i dont have the hood liner on there right now anyways, cause i need to figure something out, i think my CAI coming off my saleen the like heat shield sticks up to high for some reason... im not sure about driving a car alot with out the hood liner...but honestly i think that over time with the engine being hot right on it, it would like cook the paint almost..im sure that liner takes alot of heat off the hood ya know

Just make this clear, I wouldn't put a thing on my car from BBK and I know all the stories about aftermarket TB's and no gains or people returning their's back to stock. That's all old news. I'll be in good hands when it comes to tuning this and we shall see if dual 62mm is better than dual 55mm Ford parts at 14 psi.

Vapour Trails, I works with an adapter plate and new 4.5''-5'' rubber connector boot.

heres my opinion on getting a TB.....

1) if you got some money burning a hole in your pocket, get one!

2) if you find a GREAT deal on one, get one!

3) if you like the looks of a aftermarket one better than the stock one, get one!

other than that, no need......you gain dick! I DID get one for reasons #2 and #3,lol!

I bought a BBK, used for $150, car ran like shit and would not idle,im guessing the clown i bought it from had the same problems and the reason for the good price......so i broke it down 100% to the smallest part, cleaned it and using a little 1500 grit sandpaper on the moving parts, it idles better than the stock one now. So im happy with it!

Acutally, that is just isn't true. I've seen back-to-back dyno that showed gains, Lito and BruceH have both posted results. Bruce gained 26 lbs-ft in the mid-range.

The situation is different for a turbocharged car. You have boost pressure before the TB that rams air into the TB. On a whipple or similar, we are drawing air through the TB, and it becomes a restriction.

My bad..... True, I forgot about those 2 guys who gained out of the other hundred who said they didn't, lol.

Another individual is Paul (psfracer) He posted his results after they installed the fabbed intake from Adam @ St, a monoblade TB and showed significant gains. Maybe He can come in here to elaborate. Actually Paul posted videos of the dyno runs before and after .

Paul, it all depends on how the configuration it is setup.

In a car like yours or mine where we are coming from 3" pressurized pipe to a twin 55mm of a stock TB would not make any difference no matter how big you make it.

But when your TB is in draw thru position if all the rest of the intake is balanced a bigger TB does work, with a whipple while having the stock TB @ 13-14psi you could make around and a little over an extra psi abroad all the range.

I have tested up to the CJ TB in the whipple's and they do work but obviously there is some work to be done in the tuning side to make them behave as they should.

Just wanted to add that latest BBK come with plastic gearing and have been working ok for what I've seen.

Yep, its true, I gained 92 rwhp on a whipple @ 16psi vs the stock whipple CAI and stock throttle body.

The difference was pretty incredible. Went from running 11.30s to high 10.60s. It was definitely because the throttle body was a huge restriction at that boost level. It was so much of a restriction in fact that rwhp didn't really change from 13 psi to 16 psi.

The others are also correct with regards for a turbo / procharger---not much difference when air is being forced through the throttle body. But with a twinscrew the air is being forced into the cylinder AFTER the throttle body, so its totally different, just as Lito commented.

hold on this is super important...my car is at the shop right now, getting tuned and put on a dyno..i have a saleen supercharger, with a 8 rib kit, and have the stock throttle body on there. i am pushing i believe 9-11psi...not really sure honestly what i am pushing..thats his job lol. But if you think i will gain a decent amount of horsepower, i will bring them my BBK throttle body tommorrow before the actually tune it up and put it on the dyno...if you think that it wont do much good at all and not worth it.then i wont...but i need some fast and serious imput on this..i have heard anywhere from bbk is horrible, to reading the are good. i just need a good fast answer so i can get it to them asap before they tune it all...thanks for your input

Nothing like testing, see if you can make the tuner test it once he got it finished and do compares. I don't like BBks but as I said before, the latest plastic geared one look to work ok, do not hold your breath because the gains won't be crazy high but may be worthy specially since you already have it.

One of the troubles is the extra work it requires to proper tune the drive by wire system with the switch.

OK, I talked to both Justin Burcham and Kevin MacDonald on this issue in the last 2 days.

For one thing, we are talking twin screw, not turbo, centrifugal, or N/A. Burcham said ''Whipples love a larger throttle body'' and Kevin MacDonald said ''Bring the TB, it's a great mod with your set up''. (We are talking GT500 TB) Kevin has tuned the fastest 3-valves in the world, so we have a couple of guys that I consider friends, one owns the shop and the other originated right from Diablosport and tunes this shit every day and for the duration of the 3 valve's legacy whatever it may be. I'm sorry if some of you guys had problems with sub par tuners or power adders other than a twin screw, but I think I'll trust these guys on this matter.

I'm not promising anything, but Saturday I'm headed to JPC and if time isn't at a premium I'll have back to back dyno results on my car with nothing other than the GT500 throttle body/adapter plate swap and subsequent tuning.

Sometimes I wonder why I post questions on the boards. Talk is truly cheap. I hope to report back with a comparison guys.

Even though you are not running as much boost as I did I still say you will pick up a significant amount. The stock throttle body is definitely a restriction at 14 psi on a 302.

You are probably right. I woke up this morning with snow on the ground...no big deal. Now they are calling for more over night and tomorrow morning. Not a lot, but maybe enough to keep me off the streets with summer tires. I guess I'll have to wake up Saturday and look out the window before I know whether it's tune day or not. It's always something.
