5 points are dangerous as hell on the street. If you hit something head on your body will have a tendency to shoot downward and your lap belt will crush your stomach. Google "submarining seat belt"

Plus DOT approved stuff is a federal thing

So they are dangerous on the street if you hit something but totally fine to hit something on a track?

^^^^ lol. Ever even seen a 5 point harness? The 5th belt (nut buster) is what keeps you from submarining. Submarining was prevalent with the 4 point harness.

Finally got a chance to try the turbo out at the track - after blowing it up twice before I could get to the track. Not as quick as I wanted, yet. But as my friend John said "at least the car was able to drive home!"

The staff never said anything about my times and lack of a roll bar even though all 4 were quicker than 13.49. Best I could get was 12.5 today. The tune needs some tweaks, the shifts weren't nice and crisp and the 2-3 shift was "lazy" almost like it was hunting. I data logged each pass though and sent it and the time slips off to MPT along with my thoughts.

They run brackets on Sunday and test and tune is before they brackets start and then in between heats. But they ran brackets twice before letting us get back out again so I decided that 4 passes was sufficient for data logging.

I also was running with a full tank of gas, and couldn't get my front skinnies on the car. The passenger side gave me issues. One of the lug nuts was jammed in the wheel and would not thread or go far enough on even to start it. So I need to pull it out of the wheel and figure out what is going on with that one. Had to run the stock front wheels and tires.

And on the stock converter I can't get enough RPM to build boost on the line. It comes on rather quickly at launch though with almost 5 lbs in the 60'. It spiked up to 8 lbs once, but usually was around 6 or 7 (still double the spring rate, but where I wanted the car to be).

You have a lot higher chance of rolling over on the track vs the street

Back that up with something other than I heard it somewhere. If you have a bar and harness setup, not using the harness on the street would make it more likely to contact your head. It is one reason guys hate putting a bar in. 5 point harness is confining.

A lot more guys smack the wall than roll. If crushed stomachs were an issue, think it would have been addressed long ago.

EDIT: Found a good article and learned some good stuff. Correct installation is pretty damn important.

Borla (Touring) with Kooks Large Tube Headers ...

If you want basically No-Drone but also want to hear your's at WOT these work great.
I have tried out all different axle-backs and stayed with these.

T.

Have you tried out the magnaflow or magnapack axle-backs? If so what were the differences in "muscle car" sound quality and loudness/drone? What made you stick with the borla's?

Good article there. It covers the point of the anti-sub strap(s) nicely. Basically: to keep the lap belts in position over your pelvis to your squishy bits above it don't get crushed into paste. I went for a 6-point setup in my car and they are not uncomfortable.

Kevin,

Yes I have ran the "Magnapack" Mufflers.
In fact I ran those for years.
That was back when I had the Saleen Supershaker set-up and still had the 5-speed manual tranny that came from Ford in the Bullitt.
I will tell you the one set of mufflers I preferred over all of them that I tried were the "Magnapack" one's for overall sound.

But ...........

At low rpm or lugging the engine at low speeds they had really "Terrible-Drone" inside the cabin !!!

What I did to get around the Dreaded-Drone as described above was to keep mine in 3rd gear and that raised the RPM past the Drone.

I also back then was running the FRPP 4:10 gears with the manual tranny.

Back in 2011 Brenspeed converted mine to the TCI Super StreetFighter trans.
Plus I also had a new GT-500 complete rear-end assembly installed with 3:73 gears.
So I made the decision to sell the "Magnapack's" and try several other mufflers.
Finally I decided to try the Borla (Touring) mufflers and as it has turned out I kept them.
I also had the Borla "Attack's" and they were just simply way to Damn LOUD under WOT (Wide-Open-Throttle) !!!

If you have the 5-speed manual or 6-speed manual you can probably get around that Dreaded Drone by simply running in the lower gears at slow speeds and keep the RPM past the Drone.

I just did no longer want to start having to shift the auto tranny all the time when running at slow speeds in the hope that I could get past the Drone with the Auto-Tranny.

I just put mine in D (Drive) and never have to mess around with manually shifting it.
The tune in mine helps a lot though as it will not shift into 5th (Overdrive) until it reaches 60 MPH.
Anything below that and it stays (Holds) in 4th gear.

Hope this helps you ............

Terry

Thanks Terry for the thorough response, that did help!

I have always loved the sound of the magnaflows and magnapacks on our modular engines. Right now I just have muffler delete pipes that were done before I bought it and they are just too loud and have a lot of drone, plus the sound quality is really crappy. I am hoping that welding in magnapacks in the mid pipe will solve all of that, and I can get a pair of those for about 150 bucks instead of shelling out a lot more for a (most likely) Borla axle back.

I went through about 4 different exhaust combos back when I had my 98 cobra and the one that I ended up loving and staying with was stock headers, O/R H-pipe and magnaflow mufflers dumped before the axle. Sounded perfect. I'm not going to get rid of the cats and mid pipe on this car so I figure that magnapacks and the muffler deletes should get me pretty close to how my 98 sounded.

Good-Luck and surely they will be an improvement over what you currently have.
