ok, so today i drove the car 10 miles into town at 60 mph, pull away from the stoplight and first to second still stiff, drive the car through town for about 15 minutes and then let it idle while sitting in a parking lot eating lunch. drive away and still a hard time going from first to second and a slight crunch when going second to third at low speeds. finally after the 10 mile drive back home it's starting to shift smoother.. strange thing is when cold if i bring the rpms up with clutch depressed and before shifting it goes in nearly perfect.. it acts to me like a clutch that isnt fully releasing. guess i need to schedule a trip to the dealership sevice dept. I'm so very tempted to say fuck it and take the loss and trade it in a Gotta have it green A6 at the local ford dealer.

Why not take it on a cold day... Have them give you a rental, let it sit outside til they open one morning, and try it out.... should be fixed under either the TSB, warranty, or both...... Even at 50 degrees, that is unacceptable.... My bet is that they will change out the fluid. Getting a CHE-K member with the torque arms helped my 2nd to 3rd shifting immensely... only was notchy at high RPMs though. Now it's great.... 2012 Base GT coupe.

Mines a little 'rough' on start up during colder weather (doesn't really get that cold in SoCal anyway) but only for the first few mins of driving until the trans warms up.

I put 'rough' in quotations because its not that I really have to force it into gear, it's just a little more notchy than normal. I'm going to switch to an Amsoil trans fluid when I get my MGW shifter and that should take care of it for me.

If yours is really bad I would say take it to the dealer and get it checked.

AMSOil won't help in the cold weather. It will make things smoother when warm, but AMSOil made my "cold weather shifting problems" worse. I wouldn't recommend it if you drive the car in temperatures under 70 degrees.

Really? That bad? Cause that's what I was going to be switching to. Thought it would be fine for Cali weather. :wtf:

I guess we're polar oposites... I got rid of the original factory fluid for Amsoil and haven't looked back...

Why people buy manual mustangs, keep the stock fluid and stock bracket on these cars is beyond me. You should have the bracket and fluid waiting for you at your house when you buy the damn car... Jeezzz....

You do know that AMSOil actually pulled their recommendation of putting mtg in the mt82 right? Nobody has an official statement from them on why that was, but I suspect it's a mix of not wanting to get involved with all the Ford warranty issues, and them knowing its not suitable for cold climates. I haven't looked back either, in the warm weather the AMSOil fluid is awesome. If your car is a "warm weather car" then this is the way to go. If you drive it in the winter you should really run a thicker fluid.

I like Redline MT-90 (not MTL). Still shifts cold well but offers greater sheer and film strength, by the numbers, than Ford fluids or others.

Even MTL is a good choice. Thicker than MTG but shift quality is still reported to be good in warmer weather. Is MT-90 more or less viscous than MTL?

heavier than mtl but maintains a good pour point low temperature. It's basically 90W v. MTL which is about 80W, in terms of durability.

Amsoil makes my cold weather shifting worst off until I drive for over 10 minutes and then it is much better than the TSB fluid the dealership put in. I do the 1 to 3 shift and double clutch until it's ready.

I believe that they removed their recommendation on their website because they only list the same weight as the maker does. And they refuse to recommend a similar weight to that piss water Ford is using. So they stay neutral. They also use to recommend 0w20 in the 3Vs but decided not to do that anymore too.

Don't get your hopes up. The MGW is fantastic, but it won't do anything to help with the cold shift issues. The Amsoil may actually make it worse.

I don't wanna throw the tread off topic. But are any of the Boss 302 owners having problems with their MT82's? I mostly hear about the GT's only.

Bob, I have the same problem on my 2013's as well as the one that Ford took back. I talked to the service manager at my local dealer. He said there is a TSB for hard (grinding) shifts from 1st to 2nd and hard to find 3rd. The gearbox oil is the wrong weight causing some mild sync problems.

I haven't had mine serviced yet since one is getting a paint job right now and they wont do it while I wait due to their current workload. Both will get done soon though.

Isn't that an old TSB that only applied to Job1 2011 Mustangs?

Not according to my friend who is the service manager. It is specific to 2013 GT's with a manual trans.

There hasn't been a straight cut gear in the forward speeds of any road car gearbox that I can think of since, whoa, some time in the 60s.

Might want to take it easy near the dealer; probably not a good idea to show them "abuse".
