Whipple install assistance

Folks over the weekend I installed the Whipple on my car. Went well exceprt for an issue, it won't start. I have double checked over the install. I had one issue that I am sure is the root of my problem. I forgot to disconnect the battery (still can't believe I forgot that beginning step). While installing the power lead for the intercooler pump to the fuse block, my wrench was connected and tapped the strut tower. There was an arc for a heartbeat. I continued the installation with the battery DC'd. When I finished I attatched the battery and tried to start it.

The car would not turn over at all. I noticed when turning the ignition on it would start checking the charging system,would show a DTC,ODO error, when it would go show the odo mileage and would have --------- instead of the mileage. I checked all fuses under the hood and pass side kick panel, none were tripped. I installed my tuner (I installed the Whipple tune during installation and uploaded fine) to check DTC codes, just read error. I tired to clear them but screen would say unable to do so. I think I have backfed a relay from my stupid mistake. If so any idea which one? Or could there be some other issue that I am not checking??? Any assistance would be appreciated.

That sucks, definitely electrical if it won't crank. I can't imagine that small arc killing the computer, but who knows, it's possible I guess. If anything it should have popped a fuse. Hopefully someone with some computer knowledge with have an answer. I'm good with circuits and turning a wrench, but I don't know crap about the computer system.

Thanks I will put the battery on a trickle charger tomorrow and try it. If that works I will replace it. I know its got to be something simple and its driving me nuts. I'm on duty for a 24 today, tomorrow its back at it.

Did you re connect the ground strap for the engine? If not your interior lights will work and such, but the engine will be completely dead---as in the starter won't even try to turn over the engine like a dead battery, but your interior lights and such will still work like your battery is fine.

I'm not sure when in the process you loaded your tune but try to load your stock tune back in it to see if it will crank. I had a similar issue once.

Well good news and bad. I fried the PCM. Luckily my shop has a car that no longer uses the stock computer. I was able to get that one on the car. After some issues I had the shop load a tune on another Xcal. The car now cranks but does not try to fire. I will swap my Xcal (no stock tune on it at the moment) and put in the stock tune. If it tries to satrt I know its a tune issue. If not I will recheck my wiring, the fuel injectors, the COPs etc. Any other ideas? I appreciate all the input from the members here.

The new pcm should have had a stock tune in it if it was used. Did you try cranking it while it was stock? I'd take it to stock and start from there. I can't believe that fried the pcm, but I had that feeling. I think Doc had some pcm issues with his car also.

ok since it's cranking, that means you loaded
your key codes into the replacement PCM, so that's
good...

i'm pretty sure a member on another forum started
his car (with a fresh whipple install) before loading
the whipple calibration, so this means yours should
probably start also, at some point.

may need to start checking voltages at the COPS,
injectors and fuel pump.

The car now cranks but does not try to fire.

Thanks for the continued help. I have replaced the pcm, wires appear to be good to go,I swapped the tb assembly without success. I am having the car towed to my shop, my patience has now moved to the cussing and throwing things phase.

Check all fuses in the SJB in the passenger footwell.
There is a small one 3A or 5A brown if I remember correctly that will give you the same symptoms as in post #1

Does it matter that the old tunes were for your other PCM and now you have a different one??

All fuses were checked twice, no luck. Tunes were adjusted for the appropriate PCM. I will let everyone know, what the shop finds out. It may help another DIYer in the future.

Well an update and continued help needed. The pcm that was placed in the car was an auto computer. I had the car towed from the shop it was at. I had taken to a Ford dealer. I had a used pcm with the same code shipped to me. They tried to program all the stock stuff into that computer. They said it would not let them and said the pcm is not communicating with the car??? He said he needs an pcm from a running car to rule out the pcm itself. I am ready to set that thing on fire and start with another car. So anyone have any other ideas to the issue?

Did you send your PCM to Whipple to be caliberated? Have you called Whipple to see what they suggest?

I had the same issue and it was my anti-thief. My anti-thief was not on before and I didn't know it and when I uploaded the whipple tune it turned on my anti-thief and my car won't start. I had to take it to Ford to fix it. I hope this helps.
