You might want to review that a bit more. That isn't the actual V1, it is the remote display that is mounted there. I have no idea where he actually mounted the V1, but it isn't in the map light housing. The easiest way to tell the difference is the remote display does not have the volume knob like the V1 does.
Of course, if you could get the detector at the front of the map pocket so it can see out the front and then use the remote display, that would work. You WOULD be defeating on of the best features of the V1 though: its ability to detect front AND rear signals with separate antennas.
