1) I agree. The communication couldn't have been worse. Not just between me and MMR, but also internal to MMR. From here on out, I will follow up every phone call with an email (ie: "per our conversation..."). It's what I've done at work for years and is just a good idea... especially when dealing with a shop that is busy and has 10 million other things going on.Flapjack
I hear and deal with stuff like this all the time.
1. Communication is a two way street. I can tell a customer exactly what he needs or a status up date and it's no where near what I told him the next dang day or even later that day. Looks like there was poor communication all over your build.
2. If I've said this once, I've said it a thousand times, deal only with one shop for a build. If something goes wrong, there is only one entity to blame..........besides yourself if it may be.
We get so many dang hodge podge builds in with guys using the internet to build from with "tech advice" from guys that have never done a dang thing.
3. Tuning your own car with an 05 up computer.........big balls or something else to be your first tuning experience. Or is this with a FAST or something like it? If you're using SCT, Racer Package, how did you get access to the FBW for the throttle?
Good luck with your project! It should be a beast!
2) I know that now, but it's not always possible. For instance, if I change my mind on the heads (instead of sticking with stock), I'm still not quite comfortable wig the thought of MMR heads. Mark knows this and understands, even though they've fixed the issues that plauged their heads in the past. At the point where I put another company's heads on, MMR could argue that could be the cause of any failure. So for now, I will stick with stock heads and hold out on upgrading to something better until after I build a level-of-trust with the new MMR engine...
3) Not sure what you're asking here... are you questioning my decision to tune my own car?? Others here have recommended building your own engine, because of the money involved. Just like anything else that you do on your own, you should be read up on the subject and willing to accept the loss if you screw something else... whether your mass air transfer function in the tune is wrong, or you've incorrectly torqued main bolts in the engine. I may not be the best tuner in the world, but I'm pretty damn good considering. When I brought the Mustang in for the first dyno pull, the tuner said it was nearly perfect. He only added a bit more timing in certain conditions and netted me another 10hp or so (I was being conservative).
I used the PRP and had plenty of support. Doug (then from BamaChips) sent me the info needed for the GT500 TB. He also built a new tune for me to compare against mine, as I was having issues with fuel trims being off (turned out to be low compression in cylinder 3 due to incorrect repair by MMR).
I've picked through other tunes that "professionals" have created, only to find hacks (like displacement changes to fix load) aplenty. Just like building your own engine... tuning your own car gives you ability to make sure it's done RIGHT.
So again.... I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Yes, I have giant balls of the consistency of steel... but that has nothing to do with my ability to tune a car.

to this thread. Good luck with your MMR engine I hope everything works out for you. Some guys have had good success with them and some of us have had catastrophic failures with their engines. They cost me personally about $10000 in engine, transmission, and labor costs. Yes transmission, they sold me an incorrect SFI flex plate for my 5R55S and it cost me a trans and converter.
