After seeing some of the threads on here about engines going up in smoke, I want to get a feel for a safe range of power for my build. I'm just about complete with the installation of a Whipple HO kit on my 2008 GT. I've got 28K on the engine and currently have/ added FRPP hot rod cams, ford racing throttle body, open box CAI, 3.375 pully, along with ORH pipes and cat back exhaust. Some folks on this board have suggested that I might be able to get 480HP out of this set up. But after seeing similar numbers that have reached catastrophic failure, I'm thinking that it might be best to install a safe tune and stay around 450hp. I haven't done much racing, maybe only 6 passes, and only figure to do maybe that same amount every year. I don't drive like a fool, but I do like to drop the hammer on occasion. What is a safe range of HP for the bottom ends of these engines? I would like to keep my engine for a long time. For those of you that can't help yourselves I understand that if I kept it stock I would have nothing to worry about. Thanks

Yeah, this topic hasn't been covered before. So I'm really glad to see it posted. That search function doesn't work anyway.

Honestly, if your car is tuned to less than 500, it should be ok, especially if you are not at the track every week. Of course, stuff happens and you can not predict what the blower can do.

Thanks for the feed back, it was enough to get my better half to let me get the SC'r, hate to come home with bigger issues. As far as the search buttom goes, I'm sorry, but I found it difficult to find another thread pertaining to this topic, I never claimed to be computer savy. But at least it gave some of you an avenue to complain, glad I could help

Really depends on the tune. Anything can brake. With my stock engine i made 494 rwhp. Put about 7000 miles on it with hundreds of Wot pulls. I beat the piss out of it with no issues. Yet others have blown with less boost and power. Others have made more on the stock block with no issues.

Make sure the tune is safe and you should be fine.

Sorry If I touched a nerve with some of the more seasoned followered. For the heck of it I went back and attempted to use the search button to find other threads with no luck. If anyone has any tips on how to properly use the search feature, I willing to try. Thanks

thats why you tell the "better half" that you didn't realize how unsafe the boost would be, and of course now that the blower is installed, its not worth anything!! so now your FORCED to buy a new forged block that can handle 1000 horse.:beerdrink:

I see you don't have a fog light delete which is a good start to having a safe tune.

Next big deciding factor: have you done a BT delete? Can effect your tune significantly

no nerves, newbie learning process is all, search can take a number of tries to get the combo of words to find what you are looking for.

in general 450whp at 10 psi and less is considered "safe" on a stock block with a 93 octane tune.
