Ford sells the seals, There are different ones for 05-06 covers and 07+. Not sure which ones your custom covers use.

I may just use a shit load of rtv gasket maker to seal it up for now just so I can finish my tests.

Does anyone know how to replace the factory vct solinoid seal?

If you are not reusing them then you can grab on of the tabs on the sides with some pliers and pull it off with the vct solenoid in place . These seals are like $12.00 at the dealer.

OK. more leaks please help. I clearly have something leaking but I can't get smoke to come out of it. It must be running through some oil or water and absorbing the smoke. It is on the passenger side valve cover down towards the timing cover. You can get under the car and hear the hissing better. Where is the 1L hole located at? I can't find it.

Answered in pm but still posting in case someone from the future needs the info, lol.

It's above the 6 rib idler and to the lower right (driver side) of the water pump. Probably can't see it without pulling the water pump pulley.

Here's the pic again.

I nominate this thread as one of the best tech threads I've read in some time. Lots of great info in here. None of it applies to me, but I hope you get your issues figured out soon! Nothing is more frustrating than gremlins fucking up your enjoyment!

Keep at it brother! You're making great progress!

Well with every leak I fix I can hear another leak worse than the previous. I have coated (valve cover bolt, vct soleniode seals) with rtv. I took jb weld over the crack on the valve cover weld. With those three sealed up. I can hear something around the timing chain cover pouring air (hissing) I am loosing 3psi of pressure out of this next leak that I am having trouble finding. You can get under the car and hear it very clearly but its almost like it just echoing off the pavement and the engine. So who the hell knows where its comning from. What so odd about it is the lack of smoke.

As you "fix" the leaks, you will build pressure in the motor. Once you figure out where this next leak is, don't be surprised if your RTV fixes fail. As you repair each leak, other places that aren't leaking are likely to fail as the pressure returns to normal. This is to be expected.

Have you put the front end up on stands so you can really get under there? If it's hissing that bad, you should be able to run your hand over different areas and feel the leak as long as you're using an outside source to pressurize the engine instead of running the engine.

BruceH, I am talking about what you are showing in your picture. Ok, I pull off the water pump pulley. The one bolt has backed out and is almost touching the water pump pulley. Ok, the other hole has nothing in it. So I did as you suggested I rtv the crap out of it and took my over sized washer and locked a bolt in the other hole. I am still hearing air escaping the whole entire system as a whole. Is it possible that I am loosing some of my air pressure through the valves and out of the exhaust just like you would when you have blow by?

Yes, I believe the air I was hearing under the car was comning from a bolt that had backed out behind the water pump pulley.

Sorry, I don't have the answer for you about where the pressure is going.

I will add that it is fairly important to torque the front cover with the Ford pattern to 18 ft lbs.

I had multiple issues with my 1L block that were caused by the wrecking yard I purchased from on ebay. They had cleaned up all the machined surfaces with a power tool. Because of this I've had to seal the front cover and oil pan gasket to stop leak paths. The head decks also had to be surfaced .007" iirc because of the morons.

Well, now that I have my car fixed of the known vacuum leaks. My car is now attempting to do idle recovery. I think its wanting more air at idle. The car smells really rich now. 13.9-14.3 afr @ idle
My car when idling around 800 rpms is pulling 10.0 to 10.5 inches of vaccum. When idling around 850 to 900 its pulling around 12 to 14 inches of vacuum just depending on rpms bouncing around.

there are some "dashpot gain" settings in the tune used to help control idle and rpms, if they are too high it will cause the car to stall.

Well if you think you have all the vaccuum leaks covered now, I read in first post you have a ton of tunes from people trying to fix the problem. Load up an original tune that you got right after the build, see how it runs.

I did, some causes idle hang now when it didn't before, others stall worse. The most recent tunes are stalling worse now. LOL odd isn't it

the dashpot gain in the tune helps with the "hanging rpm" between shifts.....if it is set incorrectly then it will cause the car to stall......

sounds like you have a older tune that would cause the rpms to hang, then you have a more recent tune where someone adjusted the dashpot too much, causing it now to stall......

talked to lito?
