Gathering stuff up to go back to all motor with my car (turbo kit will be up for sale soon) and I am putting 4.56's in it. Looking to see if anyone has notched their own cross pin instead of spending $50 on one that is already notched. Thoughts?

I did it for my 2007. I just put it to the grinder. Worked fine, but you need to measure, grind big, and take off small amounts until it can slide past the tooth.

I have also ground a tooth on the ring gear before and had no issues. Took off just enough of the high spot on the inside of the pattern. When I put the pattern grease on it, the pinion was not touching the gound portion of the tooth, so I ran that for awhile too. Now that I think back, that prob wasn't the best idean I had... LOL

Thats what I was thinking, figured hitting it with a grinder would do the trick.
As far as the grinding the teeth down LOL. Only you Marc, only you ahha.
BTW glad to see you're back

Yea, think thats what I will do, why spend $40 when I can do it myself and still be ok.
You can buy one, they aren't very expensive: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RMG-8002791/

The version advertised for the car is the wrong pin. The item I linked is correct.
Thanks for the link, Probably just going to hit it on the bench grinder to make it fit. Depending on how I feel I may just order the pin so I dont have to spend time on the grinder. Appreciate the feedback from all of you!

You will either need to grind the pin or buy a pin that is flat on one side. All 8.8 gears 4.56 and lower have this problem. It's due to the small diameter pinion gear and the thick ring gear. FiveOhBrian on the forum just went through this with his FRPP 4.56's.

The tech that did my 4.56 install ground down a ring gear tooth instead of messing with the cross pin. I looked at it on his workbench, and he ground just enough to clear and no more.

I researched plenty before doing the 4.56's and some people grind the cross pin and some grind a ring gear tooth. Seems like both are accepted methods.

I'm really diggin' the 4.56's. Makes the car feel 300 lbs lighter as it just rips through the gears so easily.

Broke dafuk down
IIRC they did that when I put the 4.56's in my Dodge ram. Granted the truck uses a 9.25 rear (off the top of my head) and it was a bit different but same idea. They also said they would never do 4.56's in a Ram again after that lol. But.. I have pulled the crap out of some trailers and worked it hard. I have had no problems

What gear did you have in it before

I went from a 4.10 to a 4.56. The 4.56 was an awesome improvement with the TR3650. When I went to the TR6060 it was perfect. Had to go back to a 4.10 when I did the 5r55s install cuz it was too steep.

Any idea on what kinda of time 4.56 will cut off my 1/4 mile? I have 4.10s now

Sounds about right. It's going to help your 60', but you have to be carefull the 4.56's don't cause a need for a trans gear shift or you can run slower due to shift time.

I dropped 6/10th's switching from a stock tr3650 to a built 5r55s with a 3800 stall.

I shouldn't have to get out of 4th gear should be turning around 5800 at the line....and the car 60ft good now 1.70...I'm hoping that will get down to about 1.65

Maybe 1.62. Depends on you as a driver, track prep, tire condition, etc., etc.
