I'm in the same boat as you now since I don't track my car anymore. I just ordered the str's this morning. Thinking of picking up a set of gt500 strut mounts now to throw on as well. Trying to see what the benefits of it are first before I buy them

From everything I have gathered on this thread as well as what I personally run on the street, get the strt. If you rarely track the vehicle (you said it's a street car) then the yellows would be overkill

I 100% agree with this statement.

But why pay extra if you dont need the adjustability? I run the str.t's with eibach prokit springs and its a nice setup with a real nice feel. Not too hard or soft. Sportline springs though...not sure..

but I do plan to make some autocross events later in the year once the suspension is dialed in.
...

Is this not the corner carver section of the forum? I have no doubt that the ST shocks are great for the average street car but if there is autocross in the future and if we are in the corner carving section of the forum, why quabble over a $150 upgrade to what is easily the standard pretty damn good shock?

How do you know you wouldn't make use of the adjustment??????? :) If you took a quick poll I think you'd find that those that have Koni Sports generally do not opt to run them at full soft (which is most like STR.T's). They could, if they liked that better. But it's not common.

FRPP dampers... pretty well suck. Ride like ass, have way too much compression damping and to a lesser extent too little rebound IMHO.

Ive tracked with the SRT.Ts and have nothing but good things to say. They are not a competition or an everyday track use strut/shock, but hold their own for a few events here and there. Will greatly reduce brake dive and have pretty good damping. Worked well with the Vogtland spring I had, which Steeda gets their spring made by, so you cant go wrong with Konis/Sports. I can say they do feel like yellows on full soft, so if you can spring for it spend the extra $ for the yellow.

Yeah, I think that's a very fair and honest assessment of the difference all the way around.

FWIW some Steeda springs are made by Vogtland, not all... and those that are do differ a touch from the V-spring.

But you are talking specifically about guys who run the Koni sports. They bought them for a reason. Most of us don't have a need for them. And I'd bet 95%+ of the mustang population would prefer the ride of the STR.T's (or Sports on low). If you are a serious racer, then obviously you should step it up. In this case we are talking about a guy who is running sport line springs...

To add: I'm pretty sure that the Steeda Sports are made by Hypercoil. I KNOW the rears are, as they SAY they are. The fronts could very well be as well since they seemed pretty much the same! :)

From what Ive heard, the Sports of full soft offer more dampening than the STR.Ts do.
Id love to take advantage of this sale and pick up some Sports, but Im not sure I can justify the price right now.
Im planning on just leaving it stock for now, instead of basically wasting money on a marginal shock that will just have to be replaced with something good when I start autocrossing more regularly.

On a related note. How is the crosstalk on the Sports in this chassis? I know theyre popular with Hondas too, but I remember hearing that a lot of Miata guys dont like them because of crosstalk.

It's not hearsay. If you call koni and talk to them they will tell you the dampening is the same (full soft yellow vs strt). The yellow on full soft won't fade out like the strt though.

Anybody have shock dyno data for Sports and Streets for the same car? Ive found them individually but for different cars, so the valving is different and not comparable.

One thing Ive noticed is that the streets seem to have a very linear curve without much ramp-up. I guess thats what makes me a "street" shock, they dont want them to jack down on bumpy roads.

What do you mean?

When a damper moves it generates heat. If it generates enough heat it will froth the oil inside the damper which is the equivalent of brake fluid boiling. Your brakes fade...your dampers fade from the heat too.

The koni yellow at full soft settings, which is the same damping as the str-t, will not fade as fast as the str-t. I got my info from Koni, so whether it's right or wrong I don't know, but that's the skinny.

Do you need to worry about it? Depends on what your plans are for your car. Autocross or road course driving are gonna generate heat. Bottom line is Yellows blow the STR-T's out of the water, but STR-T's are way better than stock dampers. If anybody is experiencing damper fade around town, chances are they are running from the police. That would be about the only time you would worry about it on the street. Which is virtually never.

I personally have sports, Sportlines, and and MM plates. I love the look but for corner carving it isn't the greatest. I love that I can adjust them since the older part of charleston roads arnt that great I can go full soft but for every day driving I am about half way on both ends.

Oh, ok, I thought you meant they would wear out faster.
